Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

391. LOL your reasoning is completely outrageious. Just because I havn't met the guy doesnt mean Ii wouldn't have a reasonable impression of him. So are you saying people like Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa or Martin Luther King are not who they are from accounts that have publicised about him? Should we doubt who they are, for the reason because we havn't met them in person? Do you think less of these people? Or become cynical of their motives? Come on thats just absurd, you could question anyone whos in the public eye and say their means are unjust and not pure.

Obviously I dont know Daniel Day-Lewis personally, i dont call DDL up everyday and ask him how he's doing. Nonetheless if you look at his history, its pretty much impeccable. He's not jus tlike your atypical celebrity ie Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt. He's had barely no tabloid scandal from what i heard of. Even if he did, I wouldn't think less of him because we all mistakes. Thats what makes us human.. But from interviews i've seen and read and ther personal accounts from other peope who know of him. The guy to me seems like a really straight foward geniune person. So its really unfair for you to say that just because I dont know him personally doesn't mean i shouldn't believe the truth of his grief and authenticity of his intentions. Nothing in his past would make me feel less of him and his convictions.

392. And to add.. even people you know of for years. You still may not even know who they are. And there is many examples of that not only in my life but im sure in yours. So your logic is off base. Bottomline Daniel Day Lewis record clean in terms of his personal life. So why should I question him? He's proved through his deeds from the past that he is pure. And that pretty much speak for itself.

393. Lets wait til the official tox screen comes out before we speculate what exactly he was on and...Lets remember what he contributed to arts with his wonderful talent. We are all human, whatever mistakes he made let us forgive.

395. haha I knew you were going to mention that in paticular about Mother Theresa or those other remarkable people i mentioned. I was not trying to put DDL in the same level as those people who have contributed to humanity like no other that have ever existed in this planet. However I was trying to express to you the point that we can be cynical about anyone in the public eye even the most revered people in history like the great hunanitarians i've mentioned..

From my understanding it seems to me you look at the glass half empty instead of half full. And for some reason you have this negative conception of all people who are involved in hollywood.. Which is understandable when you see most of the celebs that are publicised have this negative aura that shrouds them. Especially the ones you see often in a daily basis on these sites or in the magazines. But for you generalize all cebrities in hollywood are cynically motivated, is completely erroneous kind of rational on your part.

Like what I said in my previous posts, there is nothing in Daniel Day-Lewis past where we could question his motives. Nothing whatsoever! Tell me something, id love to hear it. Thereforei find it unfair and unbecoming of you to say my admiration of Day Lewis is wrong.

Another thing you got to understand I dont go around worshiping most hollywood celebrities Although their are a few exceptional cases that i feel deserve that kind of admiration and Daniel Day-Lewis is one of them. Even though i wouldn't consider him part of the hollywood clique per se.

By the way your making too much generazlized assumptions. For one thing nothing is conclusive about how Heath Ledger died. Maybe you should wait until everyhing is completely settled and they figure out what exactly happens.

396. msfanni, I feel sorry for you, criticizing people the way you do. So, you knew him? Oh, that is right, you didn't, and oh yes, prescription drugs, you don't even know how much he took, it was said he was also sick. Junkie? I don't think so, did he have anxiety? Yes, and so does the rest of the world. You are going to be eating your words. How sad for you to feel so poorly about yourself that you need to pick on others............he was a superior actor and sweet man, yes, it is tragic. Why bother posting if all you have to say is negative? Loving people, all people, that is what the world should be about.

397. msfanni.....you are a sick, ignorant, piss poor excuse of a human being. Wonder what and who you are.......may nothing good come your way.....maybe next time it will be you but no one will care because you are no one at all.

400. Chelsey --
You're an idiot. It wouldn't be Darwinian considering the fact that he's already contributed to the gene pool by having a child.

I cannot believe the comment and judgments people are able to make about someone they didn't even know. All of you people who claim that this isn't a tragedy, need to check your dictionary or read a little more Sophocles.

Screw you both. Erica do you live across the street from me and steal from people's wallets in their own homes? Is that the Erica who thinks I am piss poor?

I would wish that nothing good comes your way. But that is just stupid and asinine. So because of words that I have said I should suffer. Both Amanda and Erica both seem like piss poor examples of human beings to me, to wish something bad happens to another human. you must be members of PETA.. Did I wish bad upon anyone? No I did not I stated my beliefs in a country where I am free to do that. You know a little thing called the Constitution. But hey thanks for playing .

Hers to Pissing of the feel good weenies of the free world.

404. Yes, mafanni, it was not a nice thing to say. Seldom, if ever, do I allow anyone to bring me to the level of anger and disgust that you have. I am a "boomer kid" who has seen much but it still never stops hurting to see young people die like this. The difference is, our generation grieved their deaths and didn't tear them and their memories all to hell. We respected our musicians and actors.....we didn't know them, we just hurt. You are obviously on some level that I can't and care not to relate to. And, for the record, I think the things you've said at this site are hateful, ugly and wrong....

Posted at 2:43PM on Jan 26th 2008 by Amanda

405. A lot of the statements on this site are so incredibly obtuse. Of course Katrina, 9/11, and all the events you listed are tragic events, but that does not exclude the death of a talented, young father as being tragic. Just b/c you see some sort of blame on his part for his death (which still has not been established) does not mean that it isn't sad or that it doesn't strike close to home to people who didn't even know him.
It's pathetic to spend so much time and energy bashing a stranger who isn't even alive anymore. And as an aside, the Constitution does NOT give you the right to commit defamation, which you have consistently done in almost every ridiculous post by insisting that he was either abusing illegal drugs or prescription drugs; unless you have proof that the rest of us aren't privy too, quit with the speculation -- it's disgusting.
Also, you seriously can't spell "dying"? Are you in 3rd grade?
