Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

47. Reason.. There are so many cases of celebrities "being clean" when they really aren't it is a sad, sad state that Hollywood is in. We unfortunantlty it will continue to see deaths lke this. they won't stop. We will continue to loose great artist. It is very sad to see a young life taken in such a way. Elvis, Kirc Cobain, Chris Farley, Jim Belushi the list goes on and on.

If they had already come out and said he died from an overdose your rant would be valid! But since they haven't keep your accusations and assumptions to yourself for the sake of his child...Someday that little girl is going to want to read what people thought about her father's death and what she is going to read is your stupidity... This is the United States of American where people are innocent until proven guilty...You weren't there, so you don't know, so shut up!

49. oh jesus. PLEASE!!!
there are people all over this planet that live daily with illness and death and war. Somehow they survive and take care of their children that need them.

The LAST thing I want to hear is how "tragic" this all is and how it somehow relates to poor poor Heath taking on the JOKER charachter. How tough and unfortunate it must be to get paid millions to PRETEND for a living.
"poor heath just got in over his head with his joker character and couldnt have dealt with it so well".

we should all be so freaking lucky to live such lives.

my GOD you people are shallow.

50. so, a "heartfelt" PUBLIC scene with an "actor", about another drug-fed "actor", and (OH, YEAH!) the fact that he (DIDN'T KNOW HIM". Aren't the Academy Awards just around the corner?

52. It amazes me how the rich and famous can have SO many prescrptions handed to them.

Meanwhile I try to get my thyroid medication four days early (for convenience sakes) and my Insurance company has a fit and declines it.

This was not even an honest mistake on his part, he had similar drugs prescribed by different doctors. Obviously Mr. Ledger was an informed junkie.

I see no difference thta he OD's on prescription drugs/vs street drugs. The rich do not need to go out and get street drugs, they just go get more doctors that do not know about each other.

53. Is he a cowboy? who is he?

Posted at 5:33PM on Jan 24th 2008 by Yes

54. 40. "he probably had a bad combo of RX meds-an honest mistake "

youre right. NO ONE EVER abuses the drugs found in his posession.
No rich celebs EVER abuse drugs illegal or legal. Esp those with a known history of such abuse

That wasn't what I was saying. Was it DELIBERATE abuse? you don't know. I speak of intent. Relax for God's sake.

55. why did'nt the masseuse and Mary Kate call 911????????

56. again Msfanni you are right. Most people dont even accept that Kurt Cobain was a heroin addict and according to his doctor that was treating him, showed ALL the classic signs of a major heroin addict. It had nothing to do with not handling fame or anything. It had to do with an illness called addiction. When people idolize this (and heath) and just say "oh its so tragic he just couldnt "handle" the harshness of his lifestyle!!!"

please. Many humans deal with much worse and make better decisions.

Did anyone see this yesterday?
From CNN.com
“In light of Ledger's death, President Bush on Wednesday postponed an event surrounding the launch of a public-service ad campaign warning against the dangers of prescription drug abuse.”

Nice. Lets further help the public to be stupid and unaware. Nice one Pres Bush.
