Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

61. #15, msfanni

You are indeed a moron.

Do you know ANYTHING??? He's a JUNKIE because he had 5 prescription bottles in his house. How many do you have? When you stop taking a prescription do you throw it away, or do you leave it in your medicine cabinet? 5 prescriptions are not THAT many to have at all, get real.

Also, do you know ANYTHING about anxiety and panic attacks? I do, my husband suffers from anxiety to the point that it causes heart palpitations and skipped beats when he feels like he's going to DIE. It's not junkie stuff. He also fidgets, can't keep his legs still for ANYTHING, and acts like he could possibly be on crack even though he does absolutely NO drugs even no prescription drugs. He has palpitations, that makes him fidget horrendously, and he can't concentrate either.

These are NOT just signs of a junkie, they are also VERY common signs of someone with anxiety issues. It is sad to say, but he thinks often that he is going to die, and tells me that he worries about us, but at least he knows that he has done the greatest thing with his life and had 3 beautiful, kind children.

Here is how it works.....a doctor will give you one prescription, you try it for awhile and if it doesn't help the doctor gives you something DIFFERENT to see if THAT helps at all. This cycle continues until you get exhausted trying, or find something that actually HELPS. You actually KEEP the prescriptions, in case you decide to try them again or whatever..........I bet we have 25-30 prescriptions in our medicine cabinet (ALL ALMOST FULL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HELP!!), but no one in our house is a "junkie", we don't even drink alcohol.

You're a moron.

63. Dan is as classy as they come. His comments were obviously heartfelt and genuine. He didn't have to say the things he did. He could have just answered Oprah's questions about himself and hogged the spotlight, but he didn't. Total class.

64. msfanni - God, I don't even know what to say to you. You don't deserve my words.
Jennifer in LA, Phony Tony, and Reason - STFU.
Lady Hadenough - thank you. You're one of the few talking sense here.

Daniel Day-Lewis, what a class act. He didn't have to say anything, but he took the time to make such sincere and heartfelt comments. Amazing.

I do not understand how people can mock or insult people after they die, whether you liked them or not. How cruel can you be?!

65. I can not believe some of the insanely disrespectful trash coming from people mouths. You don't know what killed him yet. You don't if he had a stubstance abuse problem. Really you don't know anything. DDL said what many people are feeling, remorse for his family. BTW do you go see movies with crappy actors in it, I bet not. That what keeps DDL and Heath making the big bucks, they are truely good at what they do.

68. What's wrong with you people at tmz. Why are you ridiculing someone for having a heart? You don't have to know someone to have sympathy for such a tragic loss!!!

71. I really gave this more thought.

If Heath did take all these medications on purpose, then his death really is not tragic, it is DARWINIAN!

72. who calls private security when a person is dead or dying????? a troll, that's who!!!!!

73. Ledger wasn't an icon,…he wasn't a humanitarian, scholar, teacher, or even a role model,…he was just an average actor - no better or worse than you or I. He was just a guy, hooked on drugs (as is normal in his chosen profession) , unwed with a child, bounced in and out of relationships, with nothing to root him to ground on a daily basis. From everything I've read, he was probably a very sad and inwardly lonely person who was continually enabled by his "friends". So,…a guy who was working while sick made a few tactless remarks and/or misplaced attempts at humor, both toward Ledger and then by trying to segway them into comments about the stock market and a few politicos, - it's honestly no worse than what I read on this and other sites everyday by posters and site owners, alike. The problem I see is that in eulogizing someone, too often the exaggerating becomes overt lies. Honoring the dead is accomplished by respecting ALL the memories, the good AND the terrible,…both in the truth in which they were lived.

74. that was so nice, it brought tears to my eyes......for someone who even said he never met him, to get chocked up at talking about him...DDL is a very sincere man....that was very nice

75. Daniel Day Lewis is a class act, and his statements regarding Heath Ledgers situation are real and heartfelt.

To call Heath a Junkie and act as if he deserved this at this time is tasteless and irrelevent. The toxicology reports will come in in approx 2 weeks. Anything said about the situation will no longer affect Mr. Ledger. But making petty mean remarks about him will affect his family, friends and possibly his daughter in time. #54 LP - is completely right.

Talk about shallow, disrespecting the departed is pettty and serves no purpose.
