Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

91. I re-thought my comment #54.

His daughter is only two, by the time she can read she will not even remember who her bio-dad was. So this stuff will not hurt her.
Mom probably will have had several out of wedlock children with different daddies by then.

93. DANIEL DAY-LEWIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GENTLEMAN. HE IS A VERY SMART GUY. HE WAS RAISED WELL. LOVED HIS FAMILY AND IS STILL CLOSE WITH HIS SISTER. HAS A WONDERFUL MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN. LEADS A FULL HONEST LIFE. DOESN'T GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HOLLYWOOD SWIRL. HE IS THE BEST ACTOR TODAY. ALL CLASS!

94. 73. I can not believe some of the insanely disrespectful trash coming from people mouths. You don't know what killed him yet. You don't if he had a stubstance abuse problem. Really you don't know anything. DDL said what many people are feeling, remorse for his family. BTW do you go see movies with crappy actors in it, I bet not. That what keeps DDL and Heath making the big bucks, they are truely good at what they do.

Then, by your own statement, Lewis (who also "didn't know him") doesn't know "anything", either. And, that they're "good actors" is simply YOUR opinion, - of which many disagree. I wonder if you've been fooled by just another scripted "acting job". Travolta is running around trying to do the same thing. Don't be so gullible.

96. His death is sad. The reverential attitude about him is bull, however. I am especially nauseated by the press, and places such as TMZ and Perez Hilton (the biggest hypochrite). It's already being reported about his drug use and drug problems. Are people being so reverential just because he kept his addiction hidden?

The question is: why are there some celbrities (usually women) with addiction problems, emotional issues, etc. that are considered fair game for ridicule and public humiliation? But people such as Ledger (albeit his death is tragic) Owen Wilson etc.--treated with SUCH sensitivity? Why is okay to attack some people (usually women) but not others?

Don't know if this has been brought up before, but look at it this way:
The masseuse called up Mary Kate Olsen, INSTEAD of 911???
Olsen, instead of telling the masseuse (or housekeeper) to call 911 right away--sent over her security guard???

Ah, buddy. Ah, me. Is it because they knew he had a drug problem. They thought he was passed out, too many drugs. SO they avoided calling 911 because they thought he was just zonked on drugs and could be revived? If they'd called 911 right away, even knowing his drug problem--might he have lived?

Why else would they not call 911 immediately? Even if one person was an idiot--are we to assume BOTH were? Would YOU call 911 if you found someone passed out, unresponsive? Or send over your bodyguard instead.

There's just as much to learn from tragic drug deaths as from other stuff. Kids etc. --don't blow your life away on drugs. Death can happen even to the best people.

And hey, TMZ--treat everyone equally will you? I'm not saying diss Ledger, god bless him. But be kind to others. You can report news. But treat some people special, and tear others apart just because you make money off of trainwrecks.

97. I really think that Daniel was being very kind with his statement. I don't think it was to glorify himself in anyway or to make him seem more sensitive. The death of Heath is a real tragedy that could be likened to that of James Dean. Who cares if he's done drugs or anything, he was one of the best talents in all of Hollywood and he will be sadly missed by so many people.

99. 15. So when a rich and famous junkie dies is it any different then when a regular junkie offs himself. When I saw that Keith was dead I was like wow another junkie died. Brad Renfro another junkie died. Oh but he was a ignored child star. Oh but he was a great actor. Uh yeah but he was a junkie who killed himself with drugs. A choice he made.

You can look at Heath's interviews and various appearances and tell that he was a junkie. I mean really how sad is it when a junkie bent on self destructing self destructs. Big surprise. Or just expected. I mean how sad will everyone really be when Brit Brit offs herself.

People idolize these guys. Why? Because they can act. I mean I know lots of people who could act. Alot of these stars a just junkies who happen to make alot of money. I look at them no differently then any other junkie. And I don't find it that sad that he wasted his life doing heroin, coke, meth or whatever drug it was instead of living. He had children and chose drugs over his children. He made a conscious adult decision to do drugs.

So yet another Hollywood junkie dies. Hollywood consist of LOTS AND LOTS OF JUNKIES. Please don't be surprised when they die! They are idiots with too much money.

Everyone keeps saying the tragic death of Heath Ledher. The tragic death. Tragic that a guy with all the money in the world. all the fame in the world, Did not have enough common sense to know when to quit doing drugs. The headlines should read the stupid death of Heath Ledger.
