Is Clemens Ready for His "Moment of Truth"?

The most popular new show on television is giving former Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens a chance to clear his good name -- and he can pocket a cool half mil in the process!

The FOX show "The Moment of Truth" -- which premiered to 23 million people on Wednesday -- sent a letter to the Rocket's manager, asking Roger to appear. Contestants on the show are asked a series of questions while hooked up to a polygraph machine -- and then have to own up to their answers in front of an audience comprised of their friends and relatives.

Howard Schultz, creator and Exec. Producer of the show, says Roger can put the steroids question to rest once and for all -- and donate his winnings to the charity of his choice. Schultz writes, "People have stood in awe at your incredible accomplishments in baseball. This show could let the world know that you are an incredibly courageous person, as well as to clear your name in front of a nationwide audience, all in the name of charity."

Calls to Clemens' management were not immediately returned.

63. Val, this is Baseball Junkie, AKA post #31
Near as I can reconstruct, Elisabeth said leave Clemens alone, he's white.
You responded with what about all the good players of other race/ethnicity
A poster signing as 9 (who first posted by that name at post #29 and again at #31) made an "ad hominem" attack on you and Monica, insisting that it was your huge bag of chocolate cookie munching that caused you to say you thought Clemens was lying.
At post #31 I tried to defend you, arguing that even if 9 disagreed with you, what difference did your taste in cookies make.
9 posted againat #35, this time claiming you, as a neoliberal radical, should be sued for stating your belief that Clemens is guilty and that your ideas were based on your sugar high which was why the cookies were important.
at #57, I responded, calling 9 an idiot and a potato chip munching caffeine fiend.
Clear now? I had to condense things but I think I got the gist

66. YOu see that guys thighs and quads and butt? No way that was done through weight training, those things are massive and huge, just like Andy Petities are too---his "work out" buddy...yeah right, his roid buddy. He's a liar, like Rafael Palmero, and Mark mumbles McGuire.

When theres this much money involved and fame and prestige you better believe roger will lie...he doesnt even know he's lying anymore, its become so ingrained within him now.

no way he'd appear on this or any other show where he'd be strapped to anything that might lead to the truth....

69. I believe Roger. I've always loved him for the hard worker he is. He is dedicated and a TEAM PLAYER!
People must be so jealous that they have to bad mouth him like they are. Typical people who need drama in their lives no matter who they hurt in the process. Roger is a hero in my eyes and all the young players especially his own sons.
True fans who know Roger for the hard working team player he is will stand by him. The others can and will find someone else to disrespect soon anyway.
Love ya, Roger!! xoxo

70. Jo Ann,
Sorry to burst your bubble but the Roger Clemens of today is not the Roger Clemens of yesterday. When he was young he really desertved the nickname, Rocket. Now he's just descended into pathetic. His last two comebacks were ridiculous and the Yankees wasted a lot of money on him.
Do a comparison on Roger and Curt Schilling for example. Curt is 4 years younger, the same height and weight but can still pitch, is signing contracts one year at a time and can pitch for a full season. Far more of Curt's weight is around his middle and he admits it. There are weight incentives built into his contract this year because of it at his own request.
Now look at Clemens. Massive chest, arms, thighs, etc. and his joints are breaking down. ok, got to admit most athletes joints break down early. That body shape does not last that long without steroids. I'm sure Clemens works out a lot. I remember reading about it years ago. Note, years ago. I haven't heard about his work out routine since. Most of the huge athletes who are honest tell you about their workouts. Schilling does push-ups with his kids on his back but not huge. Johnny damon (huge) is famous for his naked pull-ups. And so on.
I just think Clemens is a liar but I'd be really happy if he can prove me wrong. For what he did when he was young he still deserves to be in the HOF. So do a lot of the other players. It's sad to see great athletes ruin their reps trying to hold on to past glory.

71. This guy is such a creep. He lied and lied and lied. God knows what this creep does to his family. He needs a good beating.

72. I can't believe people believe the myth that polygraph tests can tell if people are lying. The "science" behind them is not conclusive. Look it up!

74. HE'S A JOKE............

Posted at 3:43PM on Jan 26th 2008 by WHAT

75. 73, You're right there. All a polygraph can measure is how the body reacts to changes. Nervous people seem guilty and cool people seem innocent. The so called baseline questions prove nothing. And there are several ways to beat it if you really want to.
