Monte Carlo in Las Vegas is Burning!

The Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas is on fire -- looks like about four stories from the roof down are toast. The fire may have started in one of the luxury suites on the 32nd floor, and has burned to the 24th floor. No reports of injuries yet. Traffic is snarled on the strip.

A fire spokesman said the fast-spreading blaze started around 11:00 AM PT. The hotel has more than 3,000 rooms -- minus a few now. The 35-story hotel is situated between New York, New York and the Bellagio. Firemen are battling the blaze from the roof, where four workers are trapped, according to FOX News. Guests are being evacuated to the MGM Grand, which was the name of the hotel that burned in 1980 (which is now Bally's).

AP is reporting that the fire started on the roof of the hotel, which opened in 1996, at a cost of $344 million. As of 11:52 AM PT, there are not reports of anyone trapped inside the hotel.

In a spectacular achievement in both construction and firefighting -- this fire seems to have been brought under control inside of an hour.

76. Let's give the credit where it's due. The firefighters did a great job. Now we can make the movie Ocean's Fourteen.

77. I wish it would burn down and they could rebuild it with a parking garage so that the next time I visit I won't have to park at the New York New York casino down the street because their valet parking is full.

Burn baby Burn!

82. The Monte Carlo is owned by MGM and we locals suspect they set the fire themselves so they could have a reason to tear it down to make way for a bigger parking structure for MGM's CITY CENTER opening in 09. BTW nobody was seriously injured, gamblers went back to playing and employees went back to work. It takes a lot more than that to shut down Vegas!

83. I live (and work) in Vegas. The fire spread fast, but was put out very quickly by our wonderful fire department. They suspect the fire was started on the roof by the welders working up there - just an accident (that will cost some contractor's insurance company plenty) - nothing near as interesting as a celebrity smoking crack! My husband works in construction (a VERY busy occupation here in Vegas). I'm sure the Monte Carlo will be good as new before you know it. Thank you Vegas Firefighters for doing such a great job!

86. Vegas Baby...my hats off to you! No one hurt! I own a store at this marvelous hotel and obviously it is a very safe place to stay and play. My staff and friends were running for their lives today and I am sickened to see some of this junk on this blog. Many people work very hard daily to feed their families including my staff some as long as 12 years at the Monte Carlo. They are all calling me to see if when they can come back to work. They will be back to make a difference in spite of some ugly notes. Come visit us and God Bless all those who made sacrafices --there lives at risk. Some of you look again windows with fireman, flames over their heads.....only to save any soul. Las Vegas is my home of 44 years and Sin is everywhere you go. The only thing different now is that we are growing in spite of everything else. Normal lives. Normal people...Some not so normal....like on this blog.

87. I've stayed at Mandalay Bay and The New York New York. On one of the top floors. It's sort of scary being that far-up.
I don't care about the view of the strip.
If I ever go back, I'll make sure to ask for a suite on one of the first floors.
Ugh! Scary!

89. Jeez people, think of one of your family members being followed day and night by the paps. And then think of others hoping their dead. Maybe a if it was your sister or brother you might think a little different about wishing people dead.

90. SLIM....YOU ARE A IDIOT.....you are obviously NOT a f.f. or have ever battled a 14 story fire,to say "thats what they get paid for" makes you a douchebag.......LET ME EXPLAIN THE LOGISTICS OF A HIGH RISE FIRE TO YOUR DUMB ASS....first no elevators..that's the first thing they shut off........yes they have to hall up all their equipent,e.g.hoses,scott packs{air-tanks}to you, ropes, harnesess, ladders,by hand up all those floors, and they did that in a timely matter risking thier life without losing a life........oh and by the way,,,,,they saved the majority of the top floors...p.s. since you don't know, fire truck ladders dont reach that high!!
