Hot Vegas
Monte Carlo in Las Vegas is Burning!

The Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas is on fire -- looks like about four stories from the roof down are toast. The fire may have started in one of the luxury suites on the 32nd floor, and has burned to the 24th floor. No reports of injuries yet. Traffic is snarled on the strip.

A fire spokesman said the fast-spreading blaze started around 11:00 AM PT. The hotel has more than 3,000 rooms -- minus a few now. The 35-story hotel is situated between New York, New York and the Bellagio. Firemen are battling the blaze from the roof, where four workers are trapped, according to FOX News. Guests are being evacuated to the MGM Grand, which was the name of the hotel that burned in 1980 (which is now Bally's).

AP is reporting that the fire started on the roof of the hotel, which opened in 1996, at a cost of $344 million. As of 11:52 AM PT, there are not reports of anyone trapped inside the hotel.

In a spectacular achievement in both construction and firefighting -- this fire seems to have been brought under control inside of an hour.

96. Hey 92! I got married there too! And stayed there at the top. I thought it was a bad omen but the Wedding Chapel is on the 2nd floor. (I think?) I got phone calls today from family members that were at the wedding from all over America saying they were sad. Weird.

97. All of you that are saying bad things about the Monte Carlo have never had their ass stay there!
My whole family was sad about this, even my 15yr old son, who has loved to stay at the monte carlo for years. We have come to the Monte Carlo as a neighborhood. It's our favorite place to stay.
It is great resturants, great shops, terrific rooms (awesome suites) and a really fun family lazy river pool.
Again, I have stayed at most all of the major hotels in Vegas and nothing compares to the Monte Carlo.
Reason....the staff, the mgmt, the location on the strip and the feeling you get when you stay there. Why, because the people care.

We care about you guys at the Monte Carlo....
Thanks for many ,many happy times!

98. PS...We heard that the MGM is going to change the concept of the monte carlo....
Please MGM, do not mess with the concept.
We love the hotel "as is"....
Fix it and leave it as is

99. Clearly this situation was handled swiftly and professionally. Not surprising since MGM Mirage is such a class act in terms of operational procedure and safety. As a resident of Las Vegas, my best wishes go out to those affected by this incident. And to those saying ill remarks about that property and our City, please try and be respectful of difficult situations even when they don't directly involve your life. - JC
