Monte Carlo in Las Vegas is Burning!

The Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas is on fire -- looks like about four stories from the roof down are toast. The fire may have started in one of the luxury suites on the 32nd floor, and has burned to the 24th floor. No reports of injuries yet. Traffic is snarled on the strip.

A fire spokesman said the fast-spreading blaze started around 11:00 AM PT. The hotel has more than 3,000 rooms -- minus a few now. The 35-story hotel is situated between New York, New York and the Bellagio. Firemen are battling the blaze from the roof, where four workers are trapped, according to FOX News. Guests are being evacuated to the MGM Grand, which was the name of the hotel that burned in 1980 (which is now Bally's).

AP is reporting that the fire started on the roof of the hotel, which opened in 1996, at a cost of $344 million. As of 11:52 AM PT, there are not reports of anyone trapped inside the hotel.

In a spectacular achievement in both construction and firefighting -- this fire seems to have been brought under control inside of an hour.

106. Wow, its a shame that people think this is funny. Have you ever been to Vegas??? I love the Monte Carlo! I was very upset to hear about this. In June we saw Lance Burton perform one of the most amazing shows we've ever seen in Vegas at the Monte Carlo. This hotel is beautiful. I go to Vegas at least 2 times a year and the last time I went I didn't even gamble! Vegas is amazing without gambling! Those of you who think it should burn down have obviously never been there and are missing out in one of the best cities in the world!

I am glad to hear that no one got hurt and that this historic hotel is not destroyed! I'll see you in March Vegas!

108. UPDATE:
I live here. It was put out in about a half an hour. It was just the outside stucco facade that burned.
NOT the whole top of the building. No one was trapped or hurt. There were 2 welders on the roof when it happened.
It is not as bad as it looks.

111. I was staying at the Monte Carlo at the time of the fire and my husband and I didn't even know it was burning until we saw it on the news! We were able to throw all of our stuff in to our suitcases and ran like hell to get out. It was a mad house, they got us all to go over to the New York New York. We were leaving that day anyway so we just headed to the airport. The fire alarm did go off but it just kept saying please stand by while the incident is being investigated. Then we flipped on the news and saw that the hotel was burning! I am still in shock over it, I am just glad that we got out safe!

"They burned down the gambling house, it died with an awful sound.
Funky claude was runnin' in and out - he was pulling kids out the ground.
When it all was over, we had to find another place.
Swiss time was running out - it seemed that we would lose the race..."
