Five People Killed Near Travolta's Home

A fatal car accident killed five young men on an airstrip located adjacent to the Florida home of John Travolta, TMZ has learned.
John Travolta
The five men were speeding down a runway when their car ran off an embankment and was airborne for 200 feet before smashing into a tree early this morning, the AP reports. All five men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The airstrip is located at the exclusive "fly-in" community of Jumbolair Aviation Estates, where John Travolta has a home. The map above, obtained by Ocala.com from the Marion County Property Appraiser's Office, shows how close Travolta's home is to crash scene.

106. Must be a quiet day for news to have this rate a story.

107. Very sad, but to mention about John Trav's home being near by, who gives a crap. People are people, they are no differnt, just entertainers with alot of money. This happens everyday, everywhere. You take chances and speed, your bound to loose control and suffer the consequences. Wake up people, you play you pay. What a shame for the family's that have to go on and live with the pain of there loved one's gone. HOW SELFISH.

108. We were talking about this at work tonight. The kids were driving a BMW and allegedly driving at excessive speeds, then they hydroplaned and the 5 of them were ejected when the car crashed off road into a tree and burst into flames. Such a tragedy. I heard some of them attended Central Florida Community College and some had just graduated from North Marion High School. I don't think people that young should be driving BMW's, especially when they are out in the BMW driving around a 3:45am. What do the parents think of all this? I know my son would never be out running around at that time while still living under my roof, but that's just me. Not blaming the parents here, it was just an observation. My thoughts, prayers and my heart go out to the souls of those lost youngsters, and to the families, friends and loved ones they left behind. I love me some John Travolta (Scientologist or not), but mentioning him in this story just seems wrong. It has nothing to do with the fact that 5 young persons lost their lives in a most tragic and preventable way. I hope they are all at peace now. God Bless.

109. You people who keep saying "Who cares" are truly sad individuals.
You can sit online and rant, complain and constantly comment on what a celebrity does/eats/wears/buys and feel sympathy for one that dies but if someone who isn't famous dies or gets killed you don't care at all?
You all pitched a fit over John Gibson being "insensitive to Heath's death" and yet are the same ones mocking these teens deaths-shame on all of you.
I hope something like this doesn't happen in your community and they aren't a relative or friend of yours and that it isn't posted on TMZ for people to rudely comment.

111. #1 Lucy, couldn't have said it any better! And as others have stated, thanks for not saying "First". It's juvenile and stooooopid, especially on the the R.I.P post.

113. Damn...

I just pulled it up on Google maps and Travolta has a frickin' jet liner parked in his front yard. Do you suppose there's a trap in the bottom for dumping baddies into volcano mouths?

114. ladigrace. I'm not sure if you are being misquoted here but unless you have knowledge to the contraire Mr. Travolta was NOT home at the time. The story you quote does NOT say that he was. It does say he owns a home there but it does not say he was home.

115. Then don't have any respect for them, no one is twisting your arm to do so.
But at the VERY least show some respect for their families and quit making assumptions.
How can you have any opinion when you don't have the facts?
Second of all 18 is considered to be the legal age of an adult, (granted the mentality isn't there)
so why are you asking where the parents are?
They could've..would've...might have hurt someone else...but DIDN'T, focus on the situation at hand.

116. J,
It's hard on the parents, family and friends of these young men. It's always hard when someone you know dies. But the fact remains that in most cases, parents are at least partially to blame for their kids actions since if they'd taught their sons to have any common sense, they wouldn't have been out joyriding at ridiculous speeds on an elevated runway. Yes, it could have been worse. They could have hurt someone in addition to themselves. But the fact remains that these young men acted like idiots and I'm just as happy not to have there genes passed on in the gene pool. We don't need anymore idiots. We already have plenty. They're definitely up for the 2008 Darwin. I just hope they don't have too much competition.

117. Baseball Junkie-
You know that isn't the case with everyone-
not everyone listens to their parents and takes their advice, especially an 18 year old who gets their first taste of freedom.
I'm not going to sit here and talk like I know their families, their history and if they were "good parents" and neither should you.
Bottom line is..a parent can only do so much to teach their children right from wrong, it's up to the child when they become an adult to use what they've been taught or not to, simple as that.
Common sense cannot be taught it comes with experience and the qualities we were given and yes, having good examples in your life helps to shape that.

P.S. I think you will be too much competition for them, j/k

118. I hate it when I make typos. That should be "their genes" not "there". I know better but it seems that my fingers don't.

119. Sorry, J, but if people haven't learned by the age of 18 not to trespass and speed down a runway, there's little hope for them. Parents do have a responsibility to teach their children common sense, my parents taught me and I taught my kids. No one in my family has died in such a stupid manner in all the generations that we can trace (and that's quite a number since we're all into genealogy.)

I assume in your PS that you were suggesting that I was going to be competition for them in the Darwin Awards. Sorry you self-righteous idiot, see my comments above.

120. These guys were going 160 mph in a 2008 BMW. They should have known better. Sometimes it's just better to not know how fast the car really goes.
