Is Scientology a Religion? Buffy Says No

Original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Kristy Swanson acknowledges that Britney Spears' custody battle is "none of her business" -- but what she won't acknowledge is Scientology ... or nude photos of herself.

Either way it's win-win.

31. Scientologists are a bunch of mentally retarded idiots. They should outlaw that crap.

32.

With all these negative stories and bashing of Scientology on TMZ, I'm beginning to think Levin is running a Scientology hate site.

For Moses sake TMZ! Have some decency and leave the anti-Scientology rhetoric to other hate sites like Xenu.com and report only on the celebs. Leave their religions out of it!

Think about the total hypocrisy of this, because if they tried this on any Jewish, or Christian person in Hollywood, the Anti-Defamation League, or Christian groups and media would be all over your asses and TMZ knows better not to do that in the first place.

Looks like a double-standard to me.

If Tom Cruise wants to spend his money on books and courses by his church then let him. It's his decision on how he spends his money and time.

Seriously, what's with people's that they care so much about Tom Cruises religion? And some of the outrageous stories about how his church murders and brainwashes people? Does anyone really believe that? If you do, it's you we should be worried about.

Come on people, get a clue. The real issue is that Tom Cruise spoke out about the dangers of psychiatric drugs and TMZ's parent company makes hundreds of millions for pharmaceutical companies. That's why they are really attacking him.

Oh, and this story on TMZ that Heath died because of "natural causes"? This is a perfect example of what you call damage-control.

According to JAMA, one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. is properly administered, FDA approved PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.

It's time that America started to connect the dots.

36. To "When did TMZ become and anti-Scientology site"

As someone stated earlier, it's not as though people are bringing this up because Scientology (or any other religion) is a religion they don't like. When someone in the public eye makes their religion a focus of discussion and/or uses their celebrity to advance religious goals, as Tom Cruise and many other celebrity Scientologists have, they open themselves and their religious convictions up to scrutiny. If you don't think people had a laugh at Jamie Lynne Spears' people pointing out the kid was a good Christian in response to rumors about her sex life and possible pregnancy earlier this Summer only to have to admit this "good Christian" (code for more moral than non-Christian) was having sex and get pregnant shortly thereafter, you're mistaken. For the record, when Christian conservative movement tries to inflict their religious doctrine on the rest of us, we do point out the hypocrisy of the "good Christian" Spears clan and others who don't do as they say.

In short Tom Cruise made himself and his Scientology beliefs fair game when he publicly attacked and disparaged everyone who has gotten treatment for mental illness, treatments for mental illness and health care providers because his religion is against it and that they are the only ones who have knowledge or answers. Those in the political arena/media who have made their religion a matter of discussion much in the way Cruise has are also being talked about much in the same way Cruise is. If Harvey Levin came out, claimed to be a frum yid and publicly disparaged people for eating shellfish as evil, ignorant and misguided and it was noted he was part of a Jewish cabal trying to enforce the rules delineated in Leviticus, Jews and gentiles alike would be all over him and that alleged cabal. I don't give a fiddler's fart what Tom Cruise does with his money or his religion provided he doesn't hurt anyone else, he and his religion don't stand in the way of people getting appropriate treatment, and they live in accordance with their religion without imposing it on us (i.e., non-scientologists can make their own decisions about mental health care/treatment and scientologists who refuse treatment don't injure non-adherents).

The reason TMZ is covering this is because Tom Cruise is a celebrity. If Joe Schmoe, a Scientologist, make the same statements in his place of business then TMZ wouldn't be talking about it (at least not until Tom Cruise complained, during an interview, that the people Joe Schmoe works with disagreed with him).

37. See? Scientology has already found this discussion. And they even posted their message twice! :o) 32 and 33. But there is not only freedom of religion, there is also freedom of speech. And freedom of religion also means that anyone can leave any religion or cult without threats from this group.

By the way: one of the worst things you can do is call S. a cult. In that way, Buffy also did the right thing, she stayed diplomatic - although we all know what she meant of course. ;o) Because you never know what terrible things will "accidentally" happen to you, when you criticize Scientology too much. They call it fair game. To me, they seem more llike a psychological school of thought - with a little bit of science fiction in it.

So, could Tom Cruise help me, please? I need at least one Million Dollars! Please transfer it to my account as soon as possible! Thanks!

I've heard something once about wolves in sheep's clothing. It crosses my mind every time I hear about Scientology.

38. I have no problem with this becoming an anti-religious web site. But why only Scientology?
It looks highly suspicious when only one religion is demonized, and all the other's are left
alone. What's up with that?

If you think Scientology is strange, read the Old Testament. The entire bible is filled with
wild tales about virgins giving birth, people rising from the dead, talking serpents, etc.
Actually, Scientology is faily tame compared to other religions.

39. Being a older guy I was told back in the 70's people will one day put the Bible down and uplift other religious. Well that day is here, oh my God, it's so true and the people of the 60's generation started this and now they are in power and now come the downhil slide of America and all it's haters!!

40. $cientology isn't a religion, it's a for-profit alternative to psychiatry, and a dangerous alternative at that.
Since you're so anti-mental health care how about letting a few hallucinating schizophrenics come live with you, $cientology clam? This cult was recently charged in Belgium with being a criminal organization that practices medicine without a license. Cruise, in the video that finally managed to kill any career he had left, makes that practice abundantly clear. A bunch of untrained, uneducated, culties thinking they ARE the authorities on the mind. They ARE the only ones who can help accident victims. You're dangerous, deluded, and luckily the entire planet is realizing it. Don't get too attached to that tax-exempt status-you'll be losing it soon.

41. Scientology=dangerous, greedy cult thought up by a nut job. Luckily, its numbers are shrinking.

42. Let me guess Nancy, you're "not a $cientologist"? You clams are on every site with you're lame comparisons. What other "religion" charges upwards of $400,000 to learn it's basic tenents? What other "religion" holds back what they really believe until you've spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars? What other "religion" harassess and stalks anyone who speaks out against them? What other "religion" is reasponsible for the largest infiltration of government offices in this country's history? I could go on and on. Google "Scientology crimes" to see exactly what these culties have been doing for the past 50 years.

43. The Bible's content may sound silly but at least Christian churches don't charge you by the page to read it. $cientology charges around $400,000 big ones before they tell you the evil intergalactic warlord Xenu story. It's all about money to the culties. Well it's also about stalking and harassing anyone and everyone who criticizes them.
If I were a Scientologisy I wouldn't get overly attached to that tax-exempt status-it's going bye-bye.
