Britney Spears' lawyers from the firm of Trope and Trope were set to go before a judge on February 4 and explain why they wanted to discontinue representing their famous client in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline. But last week, the firm canceled those plans. So why did Brit's lawyers have a change of heart? According to an insider, a lawyer from the firm called Britney's parents, Lynne and Jamie, and gave them an ultimatum — they had to help intervene with their daughter or the firm was off the case.

"Britney never talked to them [her lawyers] and was not compliant," the insider says. "She didn't seem serious about fighting for her kids. She thought if she was paying them, then it was their job. One attorney told Lynne that Britney was a danger to herself and would never get her kids back if she didn't clean up her act. They were the reason Lynne finally came out here again."

Also last week, Britney's lawyers secured a new psychiatrist, who reportedly triggered the pop star's admittance on Wednesday night to UCLA Medical Center to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

107. Trope and Trope firm is keeping an eye out for Britneys estate only----not for Sam. I am sure they will want to keep abreast as to what is occuring in the conservership with her Dad and the lawyer. They are reasonable people and just need to know what will occur. Sam is not the defining interest! She is very ill, and needs to have others that have her best interest in mind watch over the estate. With the court being envolved, protection of Britney is the top concern! I have dealt with something similar in my own private life. I hope she will be able to get the help she needs to procede with her own estate and family. It will be a lifetime of this occuring at different stages of her life if she doesn't procede with her group therapy , doctors and medication. Perhaps when she settles down, Sam will not be in the picture. He just creates the problem further. Perhaps he has a mental problem. Maybe the paps should follow him for awhile, and see what he does daily. You might be surprised what he behaves like and does.

112. 118. They shoulod have appointed a court manager NOT Lufti or her parents. Brit is going to flip out because she knows her Mother is always sucking up to her ex and ow this other thing she is dating. SHe pays for everything in that family and they gave THEM control of her finances? By the time she gets her head on straight they will have half of her money gone. She needs a court appointed consevator. This is BS, At least Lufti got her to a hospital more then her parents did. Then they quickly leave her ass in the hospitial and get to the real thing that matters to them the $$$$$$$$$$$ and you wonder why she went nuts?

119. Lawyers have partners lol They cna handle this for Brit. If Brit has no objections to her lawyers defending Osama it is not a conflict of intrest, He is not charged with a crime. Maybe it is time for someone to find out just where TMZ gets this confidential info? Someone is getting paid for spilling their guts to them.

Wow, Judy, where did you get you law degree? Let's set the record straight:

First, the court DID appoint conservators -- two of 'em. The court appointed Jamie Spears. And because Lynne and Jamie were concerned about the appearance that they are in this just for the $$$, THEY asked the court to appoint an independent co-conservator. The court commissioner agreed, and appointed Andrew Wallet.

Second, the present conservatorship is temporary -- only three days. The court will hear evidence -- no doubt it will want to hear from the treating psychiatrist -- and decide whether to extend this to a permanent conservatorship. Britney has the right to be separately represented by counsel, and you can rest your brain knowing that there will be some attorney there on her behalf.

Third, a conservatorship is to CONSERVE her assets. Root word = "conserve." Get it? This is not a blank check for Jamie Spears to go on a spending spree or wipe out Brit's accounts. The conservators are legal stewards of Britney's property, and they act under the supervision of the court. There will be accounting for all expenditures. Brit's money is safer now than it has been in years. BTW, the reason Brit had a prenuptial agreement with K-Fed is because her parents insisted on it.

Fourth, Trope & Trope have a conflict of interest that prohibits them from representing Lutfi. Some conflicts can be waived, and some cannot. This is one that cannot. Whether Lutfi is has never been charged with a crime is totally irrelevant. Check the California rules of professional conduct and review the bar's ethical opinions before posting. We don't want to mis-inform the public, do we?

I really enjoy reading your comments on legal matters on these forums.

I have a different “take” than what some of the other posters have.

I do not believe that the story claims that Trope & Trope has any plans to take Sam Lotfi on as a client, but were merely convinced by him to challenge the named conservators on Britney’s behalf.

Also, I think the story was planted by Sam, himself, so that the public will think he has some importance in all this.

There has been “no comment” from Trope & Trope about this story.
