Wyclef Jean -- Please, No Fatties!

If you're thinking about getting on stage at a Wycelf concert -- be sure you're under 200 lbs.!

At a Super Bowl weekend performance at 944 Village in Scottsdale, AZ -- Wyclef asked for 30 girls to shake it with him on stage, but announced a weight limit for anyone climbing up to join him.

Wyclef finished his performance with a far-from-Jimi-Hendrix-caliber rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

91. First of all, I am not "making excuses" for Wyclef. I said it was done in poor taste and he was NOT funny. I found his comment to be extremely asinine and rude.

I think you missed the whole point of me telling you my current weight. It was not to prove how much weight I have lost because I am still not at my goal weight (to be healthier, not an image thing). It was more to prove that I am STILL a heavy woman that he could have been easily directing the comment to. That being said, I STILL think he is not a "big person hater", he just made a logical comment in a very stupid, boorish and dense way. He should have done the math in his head beforehand and asked 10 girls to come up on stage (there's a big difference between 6,000 lbs and 2,000--assuming all 10 girls weigh 200 lbs)---Not including all of the band equipment and the fact that these people are going to be dancing which is causing more impact on the stage. A better way of doing it would have been to stop more women from getting on the stage once he felt it shaking instead of putting a "weight requirement" to get on stage.

If you walk away with anything about what I wrote please understand I am not making excuses for his crass comment, I am just saying that I think it's been fired up to be more than what it was. And the whole reason why I put my weight out there for the world to see is because I am okay with my weight. I don't look much different than I did when I was heavier--I'm still considered a big chick and I still get as much attention as the "attractive" skinny girl standing next to me and sometimes even more. I've been approached by talent agencies, plus size modeling mangers and directors and I'm not exactly a spring chicken. So I am not coming at you from the point of view of a insecure overweight woman, I am a very secure yet realistic-- yes I look good, but I don't weigh 125 lbs. The stage does not care what I look like...it WILL break if there are 30 other 170 lbs. (or 200 lbs. there's really not much of a difference) women up on that stage jumping up and down. It's all good--I know my weight and I'm okay with how I look, I just don't want it put out there like that the way he did in rude and brainless manner. (I felt bad for the girl that turned back around!!).

My decision to support Wyclef, like I said before has a lot to do with the work that he is doing in Haiti. He has opened up elementary schools and sponsored many children's activities. Too many to name. Do a little research first on him as a philanthropist before you just totally dismiss him for making a moronic comment. Sometimes the good out weighs the bad especially when I don't think there was as much malice in his comment as it's being portrayed. Once again, I do not agree with how he phrased it or EVEN THE FACT he SAID IT (wasn't shouting-- just wanted to make that clear), but I don't think it was intended to be as malicious as it is being depicted. The media likes a good story to get our interest piqued, and it worked on both of us. I initially was pissed and thought "forget him"-- But after I watched the video, I couldn't in good conscious right him off knowing he made a logical comment in a really stupid way and all the good that he is doing for the community. There are a lot of famous Haitian actors and singers out there that do not believe in helping their country or even admitting to being Haitian for whatever reason. But he has always reached back and try and help the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Sorry but changing the lives of children mean a little more to me than insensitive asinine comments (my clients make them all the time but I haven't quit my job yet).

93. I agree with you kimberla. Get some sense Wyclef!!!!!

Since he was so concerned with the weight on stage he should have told security, not announce it on the Mic to subject himself to bad press. That is why I'm pissed at him. People are not going to remember the good stuff because it's not juicy enough for them -- and who suffers? Not just Wyclef but all the positive community endeavors that he is involved in. Since he put himself out there, he does have a social responsibility to continue what he started with the financially disabled. I am very disappointed in his comment.

94. "Obviously if you can see in the video the stage isn't that big so if 30 girls came up who were 200lbs and over it would collapse... That's 6,000 pounds on the stage not including the amps and stage equipment if all that weight was on the stage we would be having a memorial for Wyclef about now..."

The stage was 56' x 32' deep with a 36'x8' runway the stage was 4' tall. The amp where on the floor. The stage concert stage that is built for weight. The night before we have 50Cent car that weigh 4000lb on one side of the stage and PARIS Hilton (before she throw up) and about 50 drunken stage crasher on the other end.

Know your stage facts:

For what he said, I think he made a big misstake in saying that, he lost alot of repect after that from all of us. Besides that screw up, he put on one hell of a show.

95. Uhh...If it was seriously a safety issue instead of 30 skanks he should have limited it to only 15 skanks...and not to be funny but, if you are under 200 lbs even a good stout 150 lbs....do you even really have that much to shake! Cuz ol' girl in those aqua boogie blue stretch pants...then only thing that was "Shakin" on her was her Imagination...she had that Incredibly Visible disease of Noassat-Atol....Pronounce it slow and it will Say Exactly what I mean....Next time Wyclef just perform for Rich Suburban Kids...they all weigh less than 80 lbs put together...no stage calamities there!!!1

97. When I got up to see the TMZ news the other morning, I couldnt beleive what I was watching. This jerk telling the plus size ladies to get off the stage before the stage brakes. How rude, and to see some of the faces of the larger women getting down from the stage was so sad. Can you imagine, paying to get in a place only to find that your not welcome?Paying to see someone that really thinks your a zero? I know he had to lose a lot of fans that day. We always get back what we put out so his day will come.Who knows, maybe one day some one pretty will be dancing on stage and ask for all the good looking black men to come on stage, and when they see him, say get your black ugly self off this stage.Dont get me wrong, Im black to, but you always get back what you put out.And for the baby jerk in # 8, Im a big beautiful women and I smell good all the time.I got big friends and they smell good to, so your little ignorent comment about big girls smelling is not always true.Oh and by the way, I have smelled some skinny girls funk that was worst then any fat girl!!!

98. 14 of us friends were going to go see Wyclef today at the HOB in Anaheim. We all cancelled and got our money back solely because we can not see ourselves supporting him now. It's too bad. Shame on him. And just for the record, we all meet the idiotic wyclef weight requirement. If it were any group of people that any of us did actually belong to (asian, white, etc.) that he targeted, it would be the same thing. Discrimination. Wyclef is wayyyy hotter in his led-astray-brain than he really is. Shame on you Wy-youSoUgly-Clef, shame!

99. I saw Wyclef perform the day after the Super Bowl. He called girls onstage with one requirement, full bodied women only. he refuted the fact that he dislikes fat chicks. wanted to set the record strraight, wyclef rocks

100. you big razor bump having, dragon breath spreading, washed up old man. With your receding hairline you have no place to talk! frankly its pathetic. What kind of Carribean man doesn't like women with a Lil meat on their bones? Striking it big cause you had Lauren Hills jock to ride. Wyclef Yawn! That’s why your stage was rushed by a bunch of blubbery, pasty white soccer moms. HA! Bet you had fun watching Good Times reruns by yourself at the Motel 6 later that night! LOOOOOOSER!

101. I think the media is making it worse than how he meant it. That being said, I am a plus size woman that is currently 170 lbs but used to be 220 lbs. I have faced many people -- both male and female that find overweight people to be repulsive. However, I don't think Wyclef is one of them. I think he could have had a lot more couth and tact about it (let's face it people, the stage could only hold so much) and asked for less girls to get on stage. I think he was trying to be funny, but wasn't. It was in poor taste, but I don't think he meant it the way the media is making it out to be. I also am a fan of all the work he has done in Haiti. For that -- plus the fact that I do like his music, I will continue to support him.

103. I am super-disappointed with the statement made by Mr. Jean. This is one of the many prejudices that still exist.

104. After Wyclef’s comment about the average size American woman getting off of his stage, “Just who in the hell would want too see this loser perform“??….I think his concert ticket sell’s in the future will plummet…or at lest they should!!!
P.S. If you are 200'lb's or even close too 200 lb's you can't buy his CD'S....!!!!!! What an idiot
