Ledger's Death Ruled "Acute Intoxication"

The NYC medical examiner has finished the toxicology report following the death of Heath Ledger, and has just ruled that the actor's death was caused by "acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine."

The NYPD found five medications in Ledger's apartment after his death, including anti-anxiety medications alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium) and Lorazepam (Ativan). The sleeping medication zopiclone (Imovane) and the sedative temazepam (Restoril) -- which is used by people with "debilitating insomnia" -- were also found. Doxylamine is an antihistamine used in the short-term treatment of insomnia.

47. As I said the day it happened. When heroin is safer than perscription drugs and people have no clue. This is the outcome.
Everyone in the news wanted to drone on about illigal drugs. Never did they mention that perscription drugs kill many people a day. The pharmasuetical companies are so happy the major media is bought and paid for by them. No negative new about them. Perhaps some day a new person can on live TV say isn't it strange all these people die when in treatment for addiction and depression. When under doctors care. When given legal meds. My goodness wake up people. these drugs are not safe.
It is what killed Anna . It is what killed daniel. It also caused the lead singer from INXS to hang himself. Yes they do do that.
It also cause Brine Heartman to shoot her husband Phil Heartman. I beleive the family setteled out of court with the drug company. It is perscription drugs that are causing brintney Spears decline into insanity. The list goes on and will continue to as long as it is being hidden and the profits keep rising. Profits over life. People need to wake up and question every perscription they are given.

49. As someone who suffers greatly from insomnia, unless you have been there, there is no way you could understand how that affects you. A person who is sleep deprived is worse than someone falling down drunk. You certainly are not able to think clearly. Try going several days without sleep and then get back to me on how you feel.

50. Only two drugs were those not found in his apartment: Oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Oxycodone is a very abused drug in the Hollywood circuit. Ask Courtney Love about Oxycodone. Hydrocodone is listed by the AP as another name for "ibuprofen" (which I think is wrong because I've had Ibuprofen and I've hydrocodone and Hydrocodone knocked me out...)

Can we assume that these drugs were all that were found IN HIS BODY (as opposed to IN HIS APARTMENT)? What happened to the Ambien? It wasn't found in his tox report?

I can see him taking the Xanax as his daily depression/anxiety medication. I can see him taking the antihystemine (doxylamine) and I can see him taking the Restoril for his insomnia. I don't understand the valium or the oxycodone or the hydrocodone....unless he had a headache or muscle aches from the pneumonia (which I often get) and wanted to get rid of the aches. I don't understand taking the valium in combination with the xanax or restoril though. That isn't a reasonable "mistake" and it's very unnecessary in combination with the other stuff he was taking. Unless, like my research on Ambien shows, it is possible that he awoke and forgot he had taken his pills and took the wrong ones in his altered state.

51. He had doctors in England and NY and who knows where else. Maybe he got them from a Tijuana pharmacy too? A lot of people do. Poor Matilda, she doesn't deserve to grow up without her daddy.

52. He had prescriptions from Europe and the US. If you don't tell your doctor or your pharmacist all of the drugs you are taking it's easy to end up overdosing or having a bad interaction. People, make sure you know what you're taking and what can be mixed with what. If he didn't know that mixing these drugs was dangerous and stupidly didn't tell his doctors it's a sign of stupidity not drug abuse. I do wonder why he had two serious painkillers, all the anti-anxiety meds and the sleep aids But he still could have died from terminal stupidity and not intentional drug abuse. Since we can't ask him we'll never know.

53. Oh My God!!! Will SOMEONE start looking at the doctors who hand out this poison like candy? I do not blame a man who is gifted with addiction by a doctor that should be trustworthy. Drugs don't kill people, Doctors who hand them out like candy kill people. This is criminal and his doctor should be prosecuted for voluntary manslaughter.

54. When the press makes comments like this, you wonder if they are telling the whole story.

He had 5 bottles of prescription drugs. Had he had 4 of them for 6 months and only 2 pills were gone from each bottle, or had he had them for 2 days and half the pills were gone. Heath had 5 bottles of prescription medicine in his medicine cabinet, big deal. I have that many in mine and I bet every reporter out there does to. Didn't he also have phneumonia, Where is the mention of antibiotics. The reporting on Heath has been nothing more than a witch hunt by the press. This poor reporting will haunt his family forever, and will weigh heavy on his childs mind as she gets older and is able to understand the details of her fathers death. Also, I have a problem with the medical records of a person becoming public knowledge. What happened to Doctor patient priviledge?

55. It's so sad - and as anyone knows that lack of sleep is a form of torture used in some countries - he must of been so desperate and the doctors who perscribed all these drugs should be taken in for questioning.
We all love you Heath - Rest in Peace and please let the media leave his family alone now.

56. Additionally, I'm glad to see there is no mention of cocaine or heroine. Further proof that he wasn't a heroine/cocaine drug addict like everyone claimed.

57. Heath Ledger unfortunately did what every other person does - he couldn't sleep, pops a pill, still can't sleep pops two more pills - he's restless, gosh his leg hurts, pop a pill - too many of these pills can keep a person awake, so they take more pills - finally sleep, but it kills you

What needs to happen immediately - is STOP giving celebrities whatever they want, doctors will give a celebrity every kind of medication they want - celebrities aren't superheroes - they are normal human beings and should be monitored just like us normal folk

We will hear of another celebrity death of prescribed meds over and over again - stop catering to these people and we won't hear about it as much

58. How can you say that? He looked so tired on his last pictures (probably a bit dizzy all the time with these sleepless nights), obviously he couldn`t judge what is right for his health and probably trusted entirely the doctors... And he thought the more pills will better the condition...

59. When this news first came out everyone was so quick to defend Heath against being a "junkie" becuase no illegal drugs were found. Heath was a junkie - bottom line. The difference betwwen Heath and a "normal" person who abuse prescription drugs is Heath had the money and the means to go to several different doctors to get what he wanted where a "normal junkie" would go straight to the streets. I am willing to bet that these meds were not all prescribed by the same doctor any respectable doctor would know the lethal effects of mixing all these drugs. I'm sure Heath went to one doctor told his probs and moved to a new one to get different drugs.

Bottom line Heath was a junkie and know left his child fatherless for his drug problems. Drugs are drugs wheither prescribed or illegal - they all end up having the same effect when abused.

60. It's also interesting that the tide has turned from "Saying Heath was an addict is sullying a great man" to "It's the doctors' fault." Wake up people. He was an addict. And do you not know that you can get prescription pills on the street these days if you want them bad enough? Come on!!!

Ultimately, Heath was responsible. He could have gotten pills from doctor's in Europe, Australia, NYC, and California and there's no way any of them would have known that any of the others were prescribing pills to him, too. Lay off the doctors. He took the pills.
