Coroner: Renfro Overdosed on Heroin

In a sad conclusion to a tragic life, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that actor Brad Renfro died from an accidental overdose of heroin.

The cause of death was ruled "acute heroin/morphine intoxication," and the drugs were injected, according to the coroner's office. "The final manner of death has been ruled an accident," the coroner reported. The 25-year-old former child actor was found dead in his L.A. home on January 15.

TMZ was at a court hearing last August when Renfro told a judge he was trying to get his life back together and get clean. He had been scheduled to return to court on February 27 for a status check.

19. NEWSFLASH: This coward could not deal with life on life's terms so he used heroin to escape. With his experience shooting up I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing. "Accidental overdose" is used frequently when suicide is probable but when nothing is found such as a note.

21. First off Richard Pierce and T-bone have you ever heard of thing called Karma? I sure hope it comes back and bites your insensitive ass's with a vengence. I feel sorry for this kids family. He made a mistake and fell into drugs at a young and impressionible age. Do you two morons have any idea what kind of addiction herione can be? Your ignorance sure shines through in your comments. RIP Brad. And thanks for the great films. You will be missed.

22. YOU PEOPLE DO NOT LISTEN.

Let me explain it how you'll understand -- if you lose a lot of weight, your stomach shrinks. If you, then, try to stuff yourself full of cheeseburgers, you will get really sick. Why? Because your body can't handle it.

That's what probably happened to Brad Renfro. He had stopped using for quite some time, and when he started again, he tried to shoot an amount of heroin that was equal to how he used to shoot it up. That's how people die when they relapse.

Sad.

24. Sad, sad, sad. What a waste. Junkies are SO stupid!

25. That's just absolutely tragic. I feel sick right now. I was not expecting this. I know he was a known heroin user but I thought he was putting his life back together.

He had a traumatic childhood and was basically raised by Hollywood-- who used him and gave him drugs from a young age. There are accounts of him getting high with a writer and producer when he was only 17 years old.

If you grow up in Hollywood and this is the norm to you --- and you already have emotional problems and a genetic history of addiction (his parents struggled with addiction, from what I read.. as well, as at least one grandparent and some other family members)...

..you're screwed.

RIP Brad Renfro.

This is too upsetting for words.

26. Julielynne - Don't tell me to STFU, dear. I HAVE had drug problems in the past, and I got better. I was hooked on meth for years and years, and I'm lucky to have survived my youth intact. I will say it again: Junkies are STUPID!

27. who fuggin cares---

although I hate your name. I agree with what you just wrote @ 5:19 pm.

People build up a tolerance to drugs and have to take more & more to get high. There were reports he had been in rehab. I think he might have cleaned up for awhile and then in his last days-- he fell off the wagon.

He took the same amount of drugs that he used to take and OD'ed.

but the fact is -- if you are an active heroin OR meth user, everytime you use - you risk dying. Everytime he did heroin -- which apparently was MANY, MANY times -- he ran the risk of OD'ing.

I loved Brad. This is disappointing. Addictions are horrible. I am very sorry that he was never able to kick his habit...

28. Cynic,

you are just lucky you didn't DIE from doing meth. You were once a junkie, yet call junkies stupid. How hypocritical.

Shut your pie hole.

it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people wonder whether you are an idiot, then open your mouth and leave no doubt.

I am sure a lot of people forgave you, including yourself, for the crap you did -- how about showing a little compassion to at least this mans family? How horribly ignorant and mean-spirited you are --- former drug addicts should have the most empathy for a person who died this way.

I have never done drugs and do NOT drink anymore ..and yet, I can still have compassion, as I know that no sane, emotionally balanced person takes drugs--- they are purely for escapism and if you a sane person - you don't need to escape..

30. Jesus, what are young guys like this doing shooting herion? I thought shooting up went out back in the 70's and was still only done by middle aged hard core drug addicts in flop houses.
