Coroner: Renfro Overdosed on Heroin

In a sad conclusion to a tragic life, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that actor Brad Renfro died from an accidental overdose of heroin.

The cause of death was ruled "acute heroin/morphine intoxication," and the drugs were injected, according to the coroner's office. "The final manner of death has been ruled an accident," the coroner reported. The 25-year-old former child actor was found dead in his L.A. home on January 15.

TMZ was at a court hearing last August when Renfro told a judge he was trying to get his life back together and get clean. He had been scheduled to return to court on February 27 for a status check.

61. Too bad, he was a talented actor. Drug addiction seems to be taking a serious toll on society lately.

Yes, it is a choice to do heroin, one I made years ago. It is not a choice to be an addict though. I am a recovering heroin addict and it was a choice, you are right. It was very hard to kick, it actually took going to jail then to a court ordered rehab, which did work for me. I am lucky that I was able to get away from the devil that is heroin and I now I have been clean for two and a half years. I am just so saddened by the way people are just so cold hearted with their ignorant comments, you know what I mean? Brad wasn't as lucky as me and God bless his soul. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. I am so so glad I never died from an overdose (or should I say lucky) because the pain it would have caused my family is unimaginable.

64. Some of you might say that I have no compassion. Well I do. I have plenty of it. Some of you defend what he did by saying "I hope none of your family or friends end up doing drugs". My response to that is that I do not have anybody in my family that does drugs and I don't have friends that do drugs. If they did they wouldn't be friends of mine. Every one of these so called entertainers should have to go through random drug testing just like the rest of us have to do at our jobs. What makes them so special that they are allowed to do this just because they are so called "entertainers". Who are they entertaining?

What kind of message are they sending to the youth of today, that they can get up on a stage without any talent, bang some bones together, shake their asses and make alot of noise and money. Then they get to do all the drugs they want to because nobody drug tests them until they are caught. They post bond and get out of jail, then go right back to it again. They make a mockery of the judicial system when they only spend 38 minutes in jail. They coose to go to Re-hab then get out and coose to do drugs again. That's no accident either. They have a choice just like the rest of us do. Their choice is to do drugs so I do not and will not sympathize with them, nor will I miss them when they are gone.

Bottom line, it's illegal, so it's not an accident if they overdose on heroin. I agree with Crazylegs, accidental and heroin don't
belong in the same sentence. Why do you think they call it Dope?

For those of you who do not like what I say, then go get a job as a Supreme Court Judge and change the Constitution where I won't be able to say how if feel about dope because when you overdose from it I won't miss you either.

65. How does one accidentally overdose on heroin? They make the choice to take it, that is no accident, it is intentional! they go out and seek the drug, the use the drug, they die. Where is the accident?

Kudos to you for kicking it. My son spent five years detoxing and relapsing before he finally kicked it a few years ago. He lost a few friends to OD's along the way. During that time I was amazed at the comments and advice I got from people who didn't know the first thing about how powerful that addiction is. They also didn't know how many kids started snorting it and smoking it in high school thinking it wasn't as addicting as shooting it. Suburbia is satutared with young opiate addicts but it rarely makes the news. I did see one tv ad recently showing a dealer standing by a pay phone complaining that he's losing customers to prescrition drugs found at home. I wonder how many people took it serious, or if they took the 'not my kid' attitude and left their addictive scripts in plain view for the taking.

It's sad what happened to this kid and all the nasty comments about him. Only people who have been there understand the struggle to get clean, and the feeling of hopelessness during a relapse. I've heard my kid say he'd rather die than spend the rest of his life chasing the dragon. It truly is a miserable existence.

68. I don't understand "accidental overdose of heroin". As if there is a safe dose of heroin .... If you do heroin, expect to die at some point.

69. semper fi, you shouldn't judge if you don't even know the first thing about addiction. are you that bored that you spend time writing comments about something you don't even know about? what's up with that man? he was just a youth himself when he became addicted. he never had the chance or opportunity to be a role model because hollywood sucked him up. he was getting high w/ directors at age 17. addiction is a disease as stated in comments before. his whole family was addicted. he never stood a chance. be grateful that you were more fortunate than brad and try to open up your small mind just a little bit. get educated, then post your little comments!

70. This is very sad. I really enjoyed Brad's work and my heart goes out to his family and friends. It is very hard for some people to overcome addiction. The people who have been so disrespectful to Brad better realize that Karma has a way of coming back at you. Brad was a human being, not a saint. RIP.

71. I am very sad to hear about Brads autopsy results, although I can't say I was surprised. I loved his work and all his movies, I am the same age and I have had a huge crush since The Client, I will miss his work greatly and hope he finds peace where he is now, I am so worried about young Hollywood today, drug abuse seems so common now a days. I hope Brad and Heaths deaths will be a wake up call for a lot of people. R I P Brad I will always love you and to your family and friends I am so sorry for your lost!!

75. What a bunch of losers. There is no such thing as an "accidental" overdose. Him, along with Heath Ledger are drug addicts and drug abusers. They know exactly what they are doing and know what it can lead to. Don't feel sorry for them.
