Kat Von D -- Next Mel Gibson?

2/8/2008 8:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Upon being fired from "Miami Ink" last year, tattoo artist Kat Von D allegedly signed a photograph addressed to her former boss, Ami James, and drew a swastika and a flaming Star of David on it. Subtle, no?

Kat Von D
TMZ has obtained the photograph in question, a headshot of Kat that reads, "Burn in hell Jewbag." No one witnessed Kat write the message, but Chris Garver, another tattoo artist on "Miami Ink," tells TMZ Kat personally handed him the photo.

When Ami, who is Jewish, received the photo, sources tell us he went to TLC and was rebuffed. We're told after Ami had a lawyer intervene, TLC went to a handwriting analyst who concluded "there is a 99% probability that Kat Von D" wrote the message. In early July 2007, Avi's lawyer went to TLC with the analysis. They simply sent him a letter back that acknowledged receiving the results and said, "We trust that this information will be kept strictly confidential."

Kat's spinoff show, "LA Ink," premiered a month later.

When contacted about the photo, Ami told TMZ he wasn't as offended by the photo as he was by the indifference toward it, saying, "What is more devastating to me, and much more shameful is when people ignore something like this for the sake of the money or self-interest. That is the real 'punch in the gut.'"

TLC gave TMZ this statement: "A publicity photo was brought to the network's attention eight months ago that contained extraordinarily offensive language. A full investigation was immediately conducted to determine whether anyone associated with the network was involved. Kat vehemently denied authoring the text and after completing the investigation, it was determined that insufficient evidence existed to conclude that she had. Therefore, no disciplinary action was taken. The network always takes these matters seriously and follows what we believe to be an appropriate course of action as dictated by the circumstances and available information."

Kat's personal publicist issued this statement: "The recent accusation of a publicity photo of me with offensive and anti-semitic comments and graphics allegedly written by me is completely false and unfounded, and clearly a forgery. This was already proven many months ago to be 100 percent untrue. I always have been, and will continue to be an advocate for tolerance of all races, religions and ways of life."

I don't think that Kat did that! You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover! I can't understand why everyone thinks that Ami is so innocent here. He is perfectly capable of doing this act. Who knows who did it but none of us know the truth and it's really not fair to judge Kat and accuse her. It's pretty sad that everyone is so quick to judge other people because of what they look like or because of some rumor that we don't know if it's true or not!

lets just say, for the sake of argument, she did write that on the photo... why on earth would he take that straight to tlc and not just confront her, or just discard the whole thing as a childish act? I think it's obvious why he would do such a thing. the fact that her rising fame on tlc is suffocating his fame and chances of becoming more successful. i'd be embarrassed if i were him. not only did he publicly show his insecurities, he also showed what a puss he was by running to tlc like he was running to his momma after being confronted by a bully. emasculating? to say the least!

As for the idiot who wrote that Kat has no talent, your crazy, just because she has a reality show and your just upset you live a non-existent life doesn't allow you to make false comments on other people. She is a very talented artist not only in tattoo's but other mediums. You are obviously just one of those people that live a 9-5 life and hate it.

It's not even her signature! For the people who have said she has no talent, who's ass do you have your head stuck up!

Chris Garver was her biggest supporter when she was on Miami Ink, they had worked together before. He has no reason to lie about it. Kat recently acknowledged that she has a drinking problem and blacks out, maybe she penned it during a blackout. Back off on the booze Kat and apologize to Ami.

I can tell you this, I know Ami and Chris well. I consider them friends. I have also met Kat, in fact myself and another friend had lunch with her one day in Miami. Is all Kat did was curse Ami's name she hates his guts. This was way before he fired her. Chris in no way would lie about somthing like this. Did she write it,100% yes.

I wasn't sure what to think so I had a look at her myspace blog. I now think she did do it. She said"I worked at Miami Ink for quite some time, before friction began between Ami (the owner) and I started, all of which was fueled by insecurity, jealousy, and lack of work ethic, ALL ON HIS PART." Now if she didn't do it why did she need to add this? She has a deep hatred for Ami and this clearly shows with this comment. Plus Chris said she gave it to him. Chris was the only one who liked her why would he lie? From now on I WILL NOT her show as I honestly think she did it.

TMZ said that TLC sent the photog off to a handwriting expert who concluded that it was indeed and exact match and not the fake that Kat Von D is claiming. Nice try at back peddling! The hate she feels for Ami was very real and obviously her true feelings came shining through. I am surprised Chris Garver would hand it over to Ami, but then again he is supposed to be friends with both so maybe he didn't want to get involved. So much for that idea! Ami will have the last laugh and if TLC has any sense they will yank her show off the air!

I can't believe that TLC dumped all of that marketing money and time into a proven racist. Now she has some explaining to do as does TLC!

Ami was jealous of Kat's popularity long before she left the show. She was also too independent minded for the domineering Ami, and that irked him. Kat is not a conniver; not possessed of a mean spirit. The same cannot be said for Ami. It's not at all beyond the realm of possibility that he'd attempt to smear her, and take out a rival for the small TV market for tattoo shows (I believe her ratings are bette than his), by concocting a charge of anti-Semitism and planting false evidence to support it. The dude to whom Kat supposedly handed the offensive photo is Ami's pal How convenient that Kat chose him to convey her dastardly missive. Kat probably gave the guy a signed photo per his request, or possibly just as a friendly farewell gift, and someone else added the offensive text above her signature, and the swastika below it, after the fact. TMZ deserves strong disapproval for the way it's spinning this story.
