Kat Von D -- Next Mel Gibson?

2/8/2008 8:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Upon being fired from "Miami Ink" last year, tattoo artist Kat Von D allegedly signed a photograph addressed to her former boss, Ami James, and drew a swastika and a flaming Star of David on it. Subtle, no?

Kat Von D
TMZ has obtained the photograph in question, a headshot of Kat that reads, "Burn in hell Jewbag." No one witnessed Kat write the message, but Chris Garver, another tattoo artist on "Miami Ink," tells TMZ Kat personally handed him the photo.

When Ami, who is Jewish, received the photo, sources tell us he went to TLC and was rebuffed. We're told after Ami had a lawyer intervene, TLC went to a handwriting analyst who concluded "there is a 99% probability that Kat Von D" wrote the message. In early July 2007, Avi's lawyer went to TLC with the analysis. They simply sent him a letter back that acknowledged receiving the results and said, "We trust that this information will be kept strictly confidential."

Kat's spinoff show, "LA Ink," premiered a month later.

When contacted about the photo, Ami told TMZ he wasn't as offended by the photo as he was by the indifference toward it, saying, "What is more devastating to me, and much more shameful is when people ignore something like this for the sake of the money or self-interest. That is the real 'punch in the gut.'"

TLC gave TMZ this statement: "A publicity photo was brought to the network's attention eight months ago that contained extraordinarily offensive language. A full investigation was immediately conducted to determine whether anyone associated with the network was involved. Kat vehemently denied authoring the text and after completing the investigation, it was determined that insufficient evidence existed to conclude that she had. Therefore, no disciplinary action was taken. The network always takes these matters seriously and follows what we believe to be an appropriate course of action as dictated by the circumstances and available information."

Kat's personal publicist issued this statement: "The recent accusation of a publicity photo of me with offensive and anti-semitic comments and graphics allegedly written by me is completely false and unfounded, and clearly a forgery. This was already proven many months ago to be 100 percent untrue. I always have been, and will continue to be an advocate for tolerance of all races, religions and ways of life."

For those of you that believe Ami, you have to compare the personalities. Ami is a hot head and an insecure ego maniac. Kat is laid back, creative, talented and loving. Now looking at the possibility that Miami ink will get a run for it's money by LA ink would make me think that Ami and friends out of jeoulous desperation, would create this kinda of harm and drama, hoping it would hurt LA ink.
Now who's worried about money and fame? Hello? come on people.

The article is ambiguous and inflamatory at the least.
In one breathe it claims that the signatures is hers according to a handwriting expert, in another it states that it was determined that insufficient evidence existed to conclude that she had done it. What exactly is it?

This is absolutley bull shoot. You do not condemn and crucify a person publicly like this unless you have your facts in place. If it is false, then the defamation of character and impact it has on her public career is devastating. Propaganda was something Hitler was a master at. Do not jump to conclusions that are not substantiated properly and put yourself in the same boat.

Ami has everything to gain from this publicity stunt - And the possibility that this is a forgery is too big to ignore.
If this can be proven without a doubt to be Kat's work, well by all means stop the show. If it cannot and it turns out to be a smear campaign then Ami and Crew better be prepared for the mother of all Defamation of character lawsuits.

Chris Garver said she gave it to him? I have no reason to believe that he would lie. I don't believe Kat hates Ami or is anti-semetic, but she may have written things in the heat of the moment she didn't mean. Then again, this could just be a huge smear csmpaign against Kat. I hope Kat and Ami get through this.

What talent does she have? The tattooing, is that the talent? She's a spectacle really. There's no substance that I see, I think she's quite put on really. I also think that if you're impulsive enough to put permanent ink blots on your face, the anti sem. remarks don't seem like too far a stretch.

anyone else notice the swastika is backwards?

I believe that Kat didn't write that. She doesn't seem like a person who would do such a thing. Also it would hurt her buisness and I don't think Kat would risk that.

288. Ha! You're right. Look at the picture, she has a star of David tattoo on her finger. Nuf said. Ami - you are such an idiot.

You, Rebecca, are a flippin MORON. That, on her finger, is not the Star of David. It's called a heart-o-gram. Learn your facts before you start spewing ignorance. And you call Ami the idiot? Puh-lease. Educate yourself, and then post a comment.
