Family and Friends Lay Heath to Rest

Michelle Williams arrived for today's memorial service for her former fiancé, Heath Ledger, arm-in-arm with Heath's sister, Kate.

The service was held at Penrhos College in Perth, Australia. Ledger's father, Kim, said the service would be followed by a private funeral -- he requested privacy and did not reveal the time or location.

"The funeral will be very, very private and there will only be 10 people there, immediate family and nobody else,'' he told reporters. "It's a pretty sad time. We're finding it difficult to cope by ourselves, let alone cope with everybody around the world. Having said that, we do really appreciate the outpouring and the emotional support from all over the globe."

241. To all who continue to perpetuate the "accident" myth...Heath died from oxycontin/codone aka "hillbilly heroine" overdose. Anyone with half a brain knows what that is. Rednecks die every day in this country from the same thing. The fools burglarize pharmacies looking for it. No legitimate doctor ever prescribed this drug for a healthy 28 yr old man. I's a powerful pain medication for stage-four cancer patients...and a lot of them overdose on it.

Stop making a saint and a martyr out of a pathetic drug addict. Heath died a very common addict's death.

242. teresa m, good point. I forgot to consider the stages of grief as well. Thanks for the reminder and the possible explanation for all the negatives.

245. how petty can you get to comment about his family's types of clothing. That a perfect example of what is wrong with this country and the lack of education and caring for your fellow human beings. Do you really think they are concerned of how they look at the moment? a few of you should go to australia, it will open our eyes to what life is supposed to be. its not about clothes or money its about enjoying life and eveything it has to offer and sharing it with friends and family. im sure Heath looked down lovingly on how his family looked and is tortured about how badly he screwed up. grow a brain already browneyedgirl.

246. Baseball Junkie I just speak from experience , and I found myself regrettably allowing those emotions to creep in, sometimes emotions are'nt rational, just like in a break up, and they did it more stellar than most so there was obviosly love there. As for it explaning some of the negativity , on this subject perhaps, but for some they just post to post, or they are homophobes, or to their loss they simply did not get touched by Heaths work, be it in movies, music or directing, the piece he did for Ben Harpers Morning Yearning is stunning, He had such promise there as well,or how he saw and captured things through a camera lens, and perhaps they just never got that beautiful soul...It's their loss. As for the negs on his farewell it was JUST AS IT SHOULD BE right down to the smallest detail. Cottesloe Beach was his favorite place ,Every single detail, clothes, music, location it was all Heath and it was PERFECTION , and anyone criticizing what anyone is wearing or if anyone is smiling or anything else a Picture of Heath flipping the bird comes to mind. This was for those who loved Heath and those Heath loved.

247. It is ver sad that he is gone forever. However to say having 6 different hardcore meds in your system at once is an accidental death is just as stupid as mixing all those drugs. Not every ailment needs a quick "fix" - its just like being a junkie.

I will miss him and his acting.

249. Jaustin, to all of you who keep perpetuating the myth that Heath must have deliberately overdosed because no doctor would prescribe such a strong pain med to a healthy 28-year old male because they are only given to stage-4 cancer patients.

Would you and all the other idiots like you please learn a few facts?

Fact no. 1: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone are not only prescribed to cancer patients. My doctor gave me a prescription for oxycodone after surgery and my dentist gave me a prescription for Hydrocodone after I had two impacted wisdom teeth extracted. Both drugs are prescribed for severe pain, not just for severe chronic pain. And both of these doctors were legitimate. One is the head of Orthopedics at a large hospital, the dentist is less well known but received his degrees from well-known universities.

Fact no. 2: We do not know how healthy Heath was. He may have been in severe pain from any number of conditions. He was a private man who did not share his personal life with the media.

Fact no 3: He had only small amounts of any of the drugs in him. Not enough for him to have taken any one or two of them to get high. Yes, we know that Oxycodone is "hillbilly heroin". That does not mean that Heath Ledger used it that way.

I think it is criminal the way you and others continue to try to smear his name because you don't have the brains or imagination to think of more than one way for something to happen and can't interpret the evidence or the ME's report to save your life. Stop trying to use your pathetic excuses for brains to think and stick to using them to hold your ears apart. That's the only thing they seem to be good for.

251. Bi-pole-stuffer-er,
As for so-called "fact #2", WE DO know that Heath wasn't suffering from "any number of conditions" as you apologists would have us believe. These would have been reported in the autopsy as contributing factors (perhaps you recall Anna Nicole's butt-sore infection?). Heath had no heart defects. No brain tumors. No kidney failure. No broken bones. No nothing. Maybe you missed the memo...this is why they did the toxicological???

Your fanatical praise of codones doesn't mean Heath DIDN'T use them to get high either. Logic says he did. Most likely one of his pusher-friends gave him an Oxy the night before which he foolishly mixed with other meds.

I think it's criminal that idiot FANGIRLS like you fellate the name of a womanizing, commitment-phobic pill-head instead of letting the truth be told so millions of young kids will know he was anything but a hero to be emulated.

252. Jaustin First of all the autopsy did not say he did not have anything it simply released the cause as accidental it did not even list the levels of the drugs, this could just as easily been interactive. I think what is more criminal is for you to make such broad assumptions based on so little fact, Furthermore is it careless and offensive for you to spew your opinion and speculation and try to envelope it as Logic who's Logic YOURS? And no one is trying to canonize him to sainthood or make a martyr out of him,
But for some , regardless of how he died It is a monumental loss he was an imeassurable talent and a kind, gentle sould who did not want to be emulated. he very well may have struggled, but rest assured he fought like hell and unlike you he had enormous compassion***I suggest you get some....We Are All Inclined To Judge Ourselves By Our Ideals,And Others By Their Acts Harold Nicolson.

253. Jaustin, your infantile rewriting of my screen name shows us how valuable your writing is but because other people may believe your version of "logic" I shall attempt to show them how thoroughly wrong you are.
The fact that no physical conditions were listed as contributory causes merely means that no physical symptom was believed to have contributed to his death. They don't list a broken leg unless the leg is contributory. They would most likely have listed a brain tumor since that damage done by a tumor could have interfered with his memory for example.
You cannot prove a positive, i.e. Heath Ledger died of an overdose of codones, by using the negative, well they didn't find any other cause of death. Actually they did. The toxicology report and its explanation said that death was caused by the mix of drugs in his symptom, not by one or two as would have been the case with a drug overdose. The ME said they do not know for certain how Heath Ledger died. That means that unless you have received you information from God on high, you don't know either. The hubris of your assumption of omnipotence is staggering in its assininity.
My can only think that your reference to my "fanatical praise of codones" is a ridiculous attempt to divert attention from the fact that you have little or no medical knowledge whatsoever. But then, anyone who assumes codones are only prescribed for severe chronic pain as opposed to severe pain, must demonstrate that daily.
I have a fairly deep knowledge of medications both prescription and OTC, partly because of the large number I take (at 50, the depredations of time are catching up with me) on a daily basis and partly because of my family background. I do not rely on doctors or pharmacists to keep track of my medications because there have been instances where a doctor prescribed something that had a negative interaction with other medications I was taking. I keep track of them myself with the help of the Physicians Desk Reference available in larger bookstores. It gives all the information on any drug that the doctors and pharmacists have.
Your statement that one of his "pusher-friends" must have given him some oxy is not supported by the evidence listed in the toxicology report. There is no logical basis for this assertion. How far did your formal education take you? I learned logic (well, rigorous mathematical logic) in my senior year of high school. Did you miss that class? Semester? Year?
You seem to have a deep-seated hate for Heath Ledger based on your declaration that he was a womanizing, commitment-phobe pill-head. Were you hurt by a drug abuser in the past? Is that why you insist on smearing the name of a man who can no longer defend himself against your attacks? How do you define a womanizer? Heath practiced serial monogamy, most people do. A womanizer is a man who uses several women at the same time. In other words, a player. Perhaps he was afraid of commitment. So are at least 25% of the population. You refer to him as a pill-head. I believe he did have a drug problem but there is absolutely no evidence that this was the cause of his death, your assertions to the contrary.
Your disgusting references in your final statement demonstrate how little actual strength there is to your argument since if you could support your (lack of) logic you would not need to make such comments.
I agree with one of your points. We do need to educate the children about the dangers of prescription medications. The dangers of mixing prescriptions. The dangers of overdosing on medications. The truth that getting high is not worth your life. By all means let us educate the children.
