We've obtained the incident report filed by security at the Graves 601 Hotel. According to one witness, Jefferson got in a "minor verbal disagreement" which escalated to the point where Jefferson was on top of the patron, allegedly choking him.

According to the report, the New Jersey Nets star left the club, and then encountered the witness, who asked Jefferson to remain until the disagreement was sorted out. The witness says Jefferson responded, "Say another word, I will kick your ass."

Minneapolis PD tells us Jefferson is under investigation for "assault with significant bodily harm." No charges have yet been filed.

A rep for the Nets tells TMZ, "We have no comment."

22. Richard Jefferson is a fantastic basketball player! While averaging a very solid 23.2 pts., 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists, with an efficiency rating of 18.37, he is undoubtedly one of the NBA's best, young talents. I say young because he is only 27 (he'll be 28 on June 21st) He NEVER gets into public scuffles. He NEVER gets popped for dope or a DUI. He doesn't hit women (i.e. his teammate Jason Kidd). He doesn't go at it with the refs about foul calls nor does he go at it with other players about tough play, a hand in his face or a hard foul. He is one of the NBA's all-around "Nice Guys". Seriously!! He is a model NBA player and more than likely this guy deserved what he got.

23. I agree with you Frank. RJ is a nice guy and I mean if you ever just get the chance to meet him, you'd all understand. He's incredibley smart and has a great head on his shoulders, so everyone needs to stop criticizing someone before they know all the facts.

24. He actually lead the NBA in scoring (the entire league) for the first few months of the season, and has always been one of the best players in the league. Really not the issue here, but just thought I'd fill in the "basketball savvy" poster.

25. Does anyone watch the NBA anymore?
I'll bet American Gladiators gets higher ratings.

26. #25 Jizy - no offense but are you kidding me? The NBA is quite possibly the MOST popular sport on the face of the planet- with the exception of Soccer-it's MORE popular than it has EVER BEEN. With players like Kobe, R.J. himself, J.Kidd, Yao, Dirk, D.Wade, Shaq Daddy, the ENTIRE Phoenix and Detroit starting 5-not to mention hall of fame coaches like Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich-the NBA delivers non-stop entertainment from the opening tip to the final SLAM!! You are clearly not a basketball fan Jizy! Think before you speak Jizy.

Are you really serious? Maybe you need to get off the computer for five seconds and pay attention to "REALITY" no not reality tv but ACTUAL REALITY!!!

And for the other person saying the NBA is being taken over by THUGS its not the entire NBA its just Sacramento "ghetto" Kings and Denver "Thug" Nuggets!! The reat of the NBA is alright!!

28. #23 Elina,
INCREDIBLY SMART! You must be smoking crack or something. Incredibly smart people don't put themselves in these situations. Kobe Bryant is a perfect example. Sure, these athletes get paid to play with a basketball but overall, they are definitely part of the lower form of the gene pool. And then this is what happens when you give money to the mentally challenged. Their solution to every problem is to threaten to beat someone up. There, I'm finished. Now you can go reload your pipe again, moron.

29. haha Shaq Daddy is on the Suns ;) ... well who knows when he'll actually play but you're right Yankee.

RJ is not a typical punk like other pro athletes. He's one of the good guys...and the media always want to find something wrong with someone who has nothing wrong with them or their lives... way to go media yet again.. stir up some more drama to make another person fall out of the public's good side and onto the s**t list..
