"Idol" Contestant a Giant Phony?

Last night, 16-year-old "Idol" contestant David Archuleta said he "doubted" his talent. We're calling his bluff!

This kid's been a pro for years. TMZ tracked down one of his earlier (and chubbier) performances from the"Jenny Jones" show. Jennifer Hudson eat your heart out -- the kid killed it with a version of "And I Am Telling You ..."

"Jones" wasn't his only pre-"Idol" TV appearance and he may have even had a record deal! For the record, FOX tells us that contestants cannot currently have a management or recording contract.

Watch TMZ TV tonight for everything else we uncovered. Check local listings.

NO, so really american idol will help him, plus if he has the voice, then he should be the next american idol. wow you all hate im because ONE site said he has a record, & how do you know it's not fake, seriously can you LEAVE THE KID ALONE. he has a great voice, & that's what counts. & you all are being OVER DRAMATIC, "oh no he has a record, he has to go to jail!" ARE YOU SERIOUS! jail for having a record, please, save your drama for high school.

244. I would imagine that the powers that be would have checked out anything concerning the backgroundsf the contestants that might bring a lawuit or other problems later. Past sasons should have taught the producers THAT lesson! I think all this intrigue is a way to get people to watch the show.

246. Well, David has a beautiful voice NOW!

247. So what if he had a previous contract and recognition? It doesn't count. For someone who lost the use of some vocal cords, he sounds amazing! I have a feeling David Archuleta has got this season of American Idol in the bag. The only reason he's so controversial is that he's the one to beat.

249. I love to hear him sing, I think he's terrific and talented and it doesn't matter what he has accomplished, at his young age it still isn't much yet, and thats what this is all about, and this is America isn't it? He's a great idol I think. It works for me. I hope he wins.

250. I don't care what little David did before. Clearly he is not famous at this juncture in his life, or we would have heard of him. I think that he is brilliant and he deserves a chance just like every other "idol hopeful" on the show. Go David, GO!!

251. It doesn't matter. Carrie Underwood recorded a CD when she was 14, does that mean she should have been disqualified? Truth be known, David has the best male vocal this year, period! I think TMZ just wants to dog and degrade the show, otherwise they wouldn't have taken a cheap shot at Amanda Overmeyer by printing a year and a half old police photo of her DUI. It seems the media has ordained itself as being the "righteous ones" and placing judgement on others, when they are pretty much a bunch of vermin who make their living off of gossip and getting "embarrassing photos" of celebrities. I'm sure most of the media have not-so perfect lives themselves, but no one in the world would give a crap about them anyway!
Oh, and there is another young lady on the show who recorded a cd (Carly Smithson), so should she leave?
Kady should be gone, not Alaina. That was wrong! Kady is another Antonella Barbera! And Danny is another Sanjaya! Looks like another season 6!

252. A lot of people have been on Jenny's show. Does that make them a pro? Further to a comment re Star Search, That was just another contest. This blog is great to express our feelings but is all the hate comments necessary? I am a great American Idol fan and the first time David showed his vocals, I was a fan of his. I think there is amazing talent on Idol this year and I don't want to miss one minute of them. They are all great but David stands out. Why else are we blogging about him? Peace out.

253. this kid can really sing and he deserves to win as much as any of the others.

254. The David that sang Imagine is incredibly good. The David that is the "Sanjaya" (or however you want to spell it) wannabe needs to go home. He can't sing any better than the Sanjaya kid from the last season. I have no clue who keeps voting for him to stay. Worry about the bad ones that are still there, not the good ones like David that sang Imagine.

255. C'mon you guys. This kid is fantastic, and to disrespect his real talent is really unfair. He's only a child, and has pipes like a pro! Even if he has been paid in the past for a performance of any type (e.g., "pro") he's among many other previous idol contestants in past years. Many of these people are "real musicians/singers" who have worked in clubs, sang at weddings, etc. Even one of the girls told us in her video clip on the show this week that she is an actress and was in a commercial. So what? They're on AI to try to get their "big break" - not to try and "cheat their way to the top". They would have been weeded out of the competition a long time ago if they were the case. Go David, I say! Peace out.
