It's a Family Affair! Brit's Bro Now in the Mix Too!

A judge has granted a request to have Britney's older brother, Bryan, be named as the trustee of his sister's trust.
Read the docs
30-year-old Bryan and attorney Ivan Taback have been granted the authority to serve as co-trustees.

According to documents filed today, Britney is the sole trustee of the trust. But, according to the trust, "an individual Trustee shall cease to act as Trustee hereunder if he or she is under a legal disability or if by reason of illness or mental or physical disability, in the written opinion of two doctors then practicing medicine, he or she is unable to manage his or her affairs."

Since Bryan and Ivan Taback were named successor co-trustees, they assume control. Stacy Smith is also named a successor co-trustee, but had previously declined her appointment.

61. Britaculous.. the Custody judge has already ordered a 730 eval done on Brit and she's refused to do it. It will be interesting to see if it gets done this time!!

62. This sounds like a good deal for Britney! She has so much on her hands right now.

I had a friend years ago, he was bipolar. Successful songwriter. He was fine most of the time, but he went into "high" manics once in a while, spent some time in "Hotel NPI" as he called it. He worked out a deal with his family after he sold the rights of a successful song he wrote for $250 while manic. They worked together to set up financial and legal protection for his financial affairs, business, etc. in case he got manic, and agreements on what to do medically if he became manic. He wasn't "controlled." He and his family just worked together to help him in case he got ill.

Brit needs the help of family right now. Most important now is to get healthy, and be with her kids.

65. dgv...u say what are they spending her money on?...i say, count the lawyers...they've now got at least 6 involved and on the payroll under the guise of looking after Brit? what do you think these lawyers will charge?? what do you think Jamie is charging the estate for his work and now that he's appointed himself her manager, no doubt he's taking at least a 10% cut on her earnings. They will bankrupt her again.

66. It sounds to me like Brit's trust was already set up for her Bro and the attorney to take over in the event that she became incapacitated. It is common to set up a schedule of responsibilities in a trust. All that happened today is the court declared Britney to be incapacitated therefore the trustee responsibilities simply shifted to the designated backups as Britney had set it up.

68. and I note that there are also orders in place for her brother to be compensated for his work. This is sick. They should have just got a professional independent person in to do it...her father and brother aren't qualified for this...this is crazy...dad is already bankrupt once for goodness sake, I'm surprised the law doesn't protect people from bankrupts better.

70. I am so confused. So if dad is the conservator until March 10...what exactly will Bryan be doing with the trust? Does this mean that Jaime doesn't have control over what she does or who she sees?

72. Iowagirl.... Yea but that was the custody judge. Maybe the fact that it's the conservator judge may make a diff - she'll want control back eventually?!? Just a thought.

The real sh....... Dad will look after general finances and medical care.........

74. People give a detailed accout for all those of you asking what this all means..........

Britney Spears's family members tightened their grip on her finances Thursday as the court extended her father's co-conservator role and granted her brother influence over her day-to-day expenses.

L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz made the rulings amid signs that the singer's family has helped keep Britney out of trouble since her early release from a psych ward.

Her father Jamie Spears has been overseeing his 26-year-old daughter's well-being and her estimated $100-million fortune since Feb. 1, when Goetz named him and Andrew Wallet temporary co-conservators – giving them the right to employ bodyguards who control Britney's actions and restrict her visitors.

On Thursday, Jamie and Wallet requested that the status quo be maintained until March 10 because a psychiatric evaluation of Britney, due Wednesday, had not yet been submitted. The commissioner granted the extension, scheduling a hearing that day to consider extending the conservatorship even further.

Britney's father and Wallet were also granted the power to handle the singer's taxes, and Britney's brother Bryan, 30, was named as a trustee of her trust. According to court papers, trust funds are used "to pay for Britney's continued security, and to pay for her medicine, food, other day-to-day expenses and for psychiatric and other medical services."

Sam Lutfi Restraining Order Addressed
Attorney Jeryll Cohen, representing Jamie, says they still haven't been able to serve a restraining order against Britney's pal Sam Lutfi who, Cohen says, seems to be avoiding service. Lynne Spears has accused Lutfi of drugging and verbally abusing her daughter.

Since Britney's father has taken charge of her affairs, she has kept an uncharacteristically low profile with relatively low-key outings: shopping with her mom, Lynne, and regular trips to the Millennium Dance Complex.

"She's getting proper medical care and has professional security. The chaos has been removed from the situation," says one legal insider.

Meanwhile, as Jamie was in court, Britney's mother, Lynne, was spotted heading out of town at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday.
