Jessica Alba's Mexican Standoff

Mamacita-to-be Jessica Alba was totally mum when a photog yelled at her in Spanish, asking if she was embarrassed about her Mexican roots on Thursday. No habla espanol o ingles!

After Senorita Alba, who has Mexican, French and Danish roots, made controversial statements about her Mexican ethnicity and upbringing, reports claimed she was ashamed of her Hispanic heritage.

Alba, a "third-generation American," currently graces the cover of Latina magazine -- where she addresses the "haters."

16. Get a life.... She never said she was ashamed! I total can relate! Many of you have no Idea how it feels to have a parnet come over ( my father came on a green card, decades ago to work- when the U.S. needed workers) from another country. My father worked hard his whole life, he also went to school at night to get his ged, after he learned english and became a US citizen. My brother can speak spanish, but I can't. Like Jessica I feel a bit disconnected from my culture, but I am not ashamed. I'm jealous of those who have such a strong connection to their culture! My father is proud of his culture but also very proud to be able to give his kids everything America has to offer. I do wish I had learned more spanish as a child but this doesn't mean I'm not proud to be me.

24. Who cares? Shes also embraced her heritage. You paps make her out to be a sourpuss--by your own account you harassed her on the street by yelling at her- and yet you expect sweet responses? The girl clearly wants to be an actress, not a celebrity. Get over it people. Not everything you read on TMZ accounts for someones' personality.

26. Doesn't she realize she gets her looks from the hispanic blood in her. She so looks hispanic. It's disappointing to hear she's embarrased of her ethnic background. What a disappointment to the Hispanic race.

30. good for her. I hate that it's become the "it" thing for society to force multi racial people into one category: white or Hispanic -- You can only pick one! It's crazy. Just because your skin color comes out one way doesn't mean you should be expected to deny the other half (or third!).
As a light skinned multi-racial person I have to constantly deal with this issue. There are so many of us, particularly Hispanics from TX and CA whose families have been here since before those places were even part of the US and yet the activists on both sides want us to identify with them. When you come from a multi-racial background it's a unique experience -- nobody should judge us because we're not enough like them.
