Jessica Alba's Mexican Standoff

Mamacita-to-be Jessica Alba was totally mum when a photog yelled at her in Spanish, asking if she was embarrassed about her Mexican roots on Thursday. No habla espanol o ingles!

After Senorita Alba, who has Mexican, French and Danish roots, made controversial statements about her Mexican ethnicity and upbringing, reports claimed she was ashamed of her Hispanic heritage.

Alba, a "third-generation American," currently graces the cover of Latina magazine -- where she addresses the "haters."

MAYBE SHE'S JUST NOT GOING TO PLAY THE LATINA CARD? SHE'S NOT FROM MEXICO, SHE WAS RAISED SPEAKING ENGLISH, SHOULD SHE SUDDENLY TURN INTO ROSIE PEREZ JUST BECAUSE IT'S SEEN AS POLITICALLY CORRECT TO EXPLOIT ONES MOST 'ETHNIC" ROOTS???

32. I think it's unfair how she's being judged. I am Mexican-American and am not fluent in spanish AT ALL. That doesn't mean I'm not in touch with my "Mexican" roots. My mom just spoke to me in English so that's what I know. Besides, she is not even full Mexican. Why isn't anyone talking about how she can't speak French?

33. Leave this girl alone. She has done nothing to warrant the hatchet-jobs you're always trying to do to her. You just come off as bitter little bullies. So, she hates your guts. Why wouldn't she? You've given her plenty of reason. Be big boys and girls and deal with it. This snarky petulance towards Jessica is getting old and tired.

36. It's so sad really.... i wonder what her grandfather would say about her thoughts and feelings toward her roots?? And you ppl need to take ur heads out of her ass!

Here are just a few choice quotes from Alba.

She says:

"I've got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out."

"My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose."

"My grandfather was the only one in our family to go to college. He made a choice not to speak Spanish in the house. He didn't want his kids to be different."

"[Before] I always felt like such an outcast and now I feel like people are more diverse ethnically. I was always self conscience of my puffy lips and darker skin when I was a kid, because I felt like I didn't fit in. And now its mainstream, and color isn't as big of a deal and if anything its better."

"My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me, … So I never felt connected or attached to any race specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere."

"Alba is my last name and I'm proud of that. But that's it. My grandparents were born in California, the same as my parents, and though I may be proud of my last name, I'm American. Throughout my whole life, I've never felt connected to one particular race or heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any. If you break it down, I'm less Latina than Cameron Diaz, whose father is Cuban. But people don't call her Latina because she's blonde."

39. wow, that dude screaming out spanish words sounds so drunk. It's impressive that Jess kept a straight face, i would be laughing my ass off lol

she looks amazing!! I still think she's having a boy.

people need to realize that any time celebs do interviews for ANY magazine, everything they say gets taken out of context. I feel bad for poor Jess... she NEVER said she's not proud of her heritage, people need to back off and stop being so god damn ignorant.

41. Why anyone and I'm including TMZ here, gives her a-n-y space on a page is time wasted. Now here's a loser who thinks her sour face will make her the object of affection to millions. NOT. My advise is leave her alone and she'll go away...and not soon enough, believe me. Get beautiful Pamela Anderson or another HAPPY celebrity with something positive to say on your pages. We want happy faces not dour ones. Alba along with ga-ZILLIONS have the same European roots and its spelled MEXICANS! Do the math on the number of countries that took that route...

Check this beautiful girl out in the new SI. She's pretty cool and not trying to hide her heritage. Follow that TMZ.

43. Leave her alone!

It is apparent that she has Latin roots. She is a 3rd generation American and her family came here to integrate and be a part of the American dream. Isn't that what most people says immigrants should do to be successful in America.

I am Latin myself, originally from Belize and I am a naturalized US citizen. I don't wear the Belizean flag on my sleaves, I proudly wear the American flag, but I will never deny where I came from.

Jessica was born and raised in the United States of America - not Mexico.

For any Mexican who thinks that Mexico is so great, why are you here and not over there?

That fat hog Perez Hilton or rather Mario Landaverde (why doesn't he use his real Mexican name) who keeps bashing her as he himself is Mexican - look at his website- it's bilingual .........

Open your eyes people!!!!!!!!

44. Proud to be Latina!!!

Thank you for posting her quotes. I admire her now. She brings up a valid point about Cameron Diaz.

Demi,
Jabba the Slut is actually Cuban.

"We have to be more Mexican than the Mexicans and more American than the Americans, both at the same time! It's exhausting!" ~Abraham Quintanilla (Selena's father)

45. Maybe she wants to "embrace" her French or Dutch heritage.
But I think she is doing the most important thing and that is being an AMERICAN. I don't call myself, a mexican, irish, welch, dutch and english American - just AMERICAN.
