Jessica Alba's Mexican Standoff

Mamacita-to-be Jessica Alba was totally mum when a photog yelled at her in Spanish, asking if she was embarrassed about her Mexican roots on Thursday. No habla espanol o ingles!

After Senorita Alba, who has Mexican, French and Danish roots, made controversial statements about her Mexican ethnicity and upbringing, reports claimed she was ashamed of her Hispanic heritage.

Alba, a "third-generation American," currently graces the cover of Latina magazine -- where she addresses the "haters."

76. “In Albuquerque there’s really only one restaurant that’s pretty good. You can only take Applebee’s and Chili’s so much. Our big day was hanging out at Wal-Mart for five hours. It was like, ‘Yea Wal-Mart!’”

what the hell? I lived in albuquerque for 7 years… there’s hiking, the academy, the tramway, not to mention an hour away is santa fe, wineries… and there’s garduno’s, plus a multitude of private high end restaurants…. I guess good restaurants must be chains and in that case all that she must recognize is wal-mart…wow i guess she must be the only celebrity missing out.. since JULIA ROBERTS does live there.

Jessica Alba: ''I Can't Wait For My Baby to be Brown''

In Latina's March 2008 cover story, Jessica Alba gets personal with Editor-in-Chief Mimi Valdés Ryan and directly responds to the rumors that have resulted in her now-commonly used nickname, "Jessica 'Don't Call Me Latina' Alba." Check out some of her revealing answers below, and don't forget to pick up the full story when the issue hits newsstands on February 19!

On her reluctance to walk the red carpet at Latin events: "I'll support those shows, but I can't go on the press lines and have people make me feel bad about myself. Life is too short. I can't change how I grew up, and I shouldn't have to apologize for it. I know I feel close to the Latin community, because that's what I grew up with."

On claims that she's proud to have cut loose from her Mexican roots: "I never said that. Cut loose from what? What the hell are they talking about? Why would I want to cut loose from the only family I know?"

On not learning to speak Spanish as a child: "I wish to God that my dad spoke Spanish to my brother and me, but he didn't grow up with it."

On confusing other men for her dad as a kid: "When I was little, I used to go up to black men and hold their legs, thinking it was my dad all the time. I'd wrap my arms around them, then look up and be like, 'Oh my God!'"

On being accepted for who she is in Hollywood: "I was always trying to figure out: How the hell am I going to be mainstream? How are people going to accept me? When are the going to get a clue that I am American, that this is what America looks like--people like me who are mixed, have different blood, mixed with different ethnicities? When are the people who are hiring for these jobs and writing these screenplays going to realize that?"

On what she wants her baby to look like: "I'm excited for my baby to be brown. I just have to believe the dark gene is going to survive. Cash and I are like, please!"

78. I am american citizen and a proud latina woman. My Mom was not a citizen. I know the hardships that came with that. You should be proud of who you are and where your family has come from. She should set an example for young hispanic kids wanting to become famous. That no matter your race or where you come from anything is possible Its funny she looks full hispanic but doesn't want to claim it. You can't escape your roots.

79. I'm always mistaken for either Indian or Middle Eastern and my best friend is always mistaken for Persian or Armenian but we are both Mexican-American. It's because of ignorant American's and their perceptions on what "Mexicans" look like, that make people feel uncomfortable proclaiming their heritage.

I advise them to get a life and actually travel to Mexico and have them see for themselves the vast diversity found in Mexico. It's pathetic when I hear Americans say..."Oh, your Mexican?"

Get your faces out of the toilet!

80. in response to #71

What makes you such an expert on Mexican culture? Mexicans are mostly Indian? for your sake....get educated. Like yourself, I'm also proud to be Latino, but I don't see the need to make idiotic assumptions about Cuba. I have a couple of Cuban friends and I've been to Cuba myself. It's unfortunate, but till this day I have never been to a place so depressing, where 80% of kids ask for candy 'cause to them eating a candy bar is a dream. So is it fair to say that Cubans are mostly Black? and if we compare e/countries economies...well thats a no-brain-er.

81. I read both articles and she was tryna do MAJOR damage control. In the Elle magazine last year, she was all "we didn't even speak Spanish at home" and "I can't even relate", then she's in Latina a year later like "its all I know, that side of my family". Which one, you whiny bitch?! You wanna be famous, thats what you gotta go through. Try spending 22 months in Al Daaniyah, Iraq sleeping in a damn hot ass tent with 6 other people, and you being the only girl, and THEN tell me how hard it is to walk down Robertson Ave in your $600 Roger Vivier flats with people taking your picture...

82. Jessica Alba is a proud and successful American Citizen. If any Mexican "pepperazzi" or Latino groups are offended that she doesn't speak Spanish, screw them! Maybe if they advocated assimilation instead of "reconquista", there would be more successful Americans of Mexican heritage and less illegal aliens draining our economy. Shame on you TMZ, you are a bunch of WHORES. I can't wait until the media gets the "goods" on Harvey. You reap what you sow, player.
