She painted it after she have cut of her hair short as a man.
She had found out that her husband had an intim relation with her sister.
(In her country it also is a symbol for deep sorrow when a women do a thing like that)

I remember that Britney said something about that she thought she "have to be the man....."

You dont have to be crazy for doing what Britney done that time, but you can feel so sorrow that you do extreme things.
