"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

241. Well, this was one of my favorite shows, so I won't be watching it ANYMORE! Robert is the best! No one could possibly replace him or be a better host of it. So what?? The show is a hit.......get over it!!

242. I ENJOY WATCHING HIS SHOW, AND AM SADDENED BY THIS UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. HE IS A VERY LIKEABLE PERSON. WOULDN'T A LESS SERIOUS REPRIMAND BE IN ORDER? WE ARE SO QUICK TO CRUCIFY SOMEONE WHEN THEY MAKE A MISTAKE. IF THE OFFENSE WERE SOMTHING THAT REALLY HURT OR OFFENDED SOMEONE THAN I COULD UNDERSTAND THE PUNISHMENT. CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY THAT NOT ONE OF YOUR OTHER CELEBRATIES HAVE NOT LIED OR MISCONSTURED THE TRUTH AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER? I KNOW THAT HONESTY IS A PERSON'S INTEGRITY, HOWEVER, I DON'T THINK THAT ROBERT IS A WICKED AND DECEIVING PERSON, HE JUST GOT CAUGHT UP IN PROMOTING HIMSELF AND I AM CERTAIN THAT HE IS TRULY SORRY. PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING HIM ANOTHER CHANCE, EVERYONE DESERVES THAT.

243. I think Robert's show is the best thing on the Food Network. He should not have lied about the wedding cake, but give me
a break. He is not performing brain surgery. He is cooking.

244. Robert Irvine is one of the more interesting chefs. It's a shame he is being fired. Apparently you are allowed to be anything on the Food TV network except one who embelishes their resume. Food TV is going down the tubes. There are very few shows that are interesting anymore. I'm sick of Rachels same old same old and her silly talk...Im sick of Giata...she never has anything intelligent to say. Is she anorexic or what....also Sandra Lee? The Ace of Cakes and most of the other contests are boring as hell. The Iron Chef bores me to tears....all the same. Ina's silly inane laugh drives me nuts...although her food is good. Paula is about the only good one on there that has an interesting show. Also Bobbie Flays Throw Down...but that needs a change too. Jamie is great! Mario is gone....shame on you for letting him get away. Whats his name who goes around from diner to diner and eats everything in sight with food dripping all over his face growing fatter by the moment is disgusting. Come on Food Network...you can do better. Shame on you for firing Robert. Investigate some of the others. I'll bet there are exaggerations with most.

245. It is a shame that his contract has not been renewed. The ONE show on the Food Network that I really enjoy watching is DINNER IMPOSSIBLE. So he didn't do Diana's cake - who in their life has not embelished on their experience and talents in order to get a job? The fact is that on each show he is faced with seemingly insurmountable odds and always manages to get the job done.

I wonder what made the St. Petersburg Times decide to investigate him in such depth. This really sucks.

246. Oh well - the show was getting boring anyway -- all his food was ending up a lot like the last time, or the time before.
Never saw much that was really exciting or all that innovative.
Most of his food seemed very predictable.

anybody ever notice he's always asking for sponge cake.... nearly EVERY time -

At least there are new shows lined up.... Top Chef starts again soon!

248. Ahh, too bad, I liked him! He seemed to be a cool chef and it was entertaining seeing him try to pop an artery to make dinners for gazillion people in like 4 hours! Too bad he's a liar! Oh well, I'll watch Take home Chef on the OTHER channel!

249. His resume was created by a woman named Wendy LaTorre. It's well known she had a fatal attraction to Chef Irvine. She thought she had her nails into the back of another wealthy celebrity, but he rebuffed her.

Chef admitted to the puffed up resume. All chefs do it at one time or another. We have to. This is a cutthroat business..worse than politics. But the man can create and cook. No doubt about that. Leave him be.

250. The Food Network did the right thing by firing Mr. Irvine. We sure don't need him to drag the Food Network down.

251. Honestly! He's one of the very few entertaining personalities on the food network. BRING HIM BACK ! we'll all be the richer
for his presence. CYMRU AM BYTH

253. HE MAY HAVE LIED BUT SOMEONE DIDN'T DO THIER JOB TO START WITH OR THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHO HE HAD WORKED FOR, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE DO THE THINGS HE HAS DONE . THERE WERE A BUNCH OF US THAT GOT TOGETHER ON WEDNSDAY NIGHT JUST TO WATCH HIS SHOW , A CHALLENGE IS A CHALLENGE THERE ISN'T TO MANY PEOPLE THAT WOULD TAKE THAT ,MAYBE BOBBY FLAY OF COURSE HE MAY LIED ABOUT SOMETHING TOO!!!!!!! WHO EVER HIRED HIM NEEDS TO TAKE SOME OF THE BLAME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPEFULLY HE WILL GET ANOTHER CHANCE HE WAS GREAT11

254. "I wonder what made the St. Petersburg Times decide to investigate him in such depth"

Irvine attended a number of parties in St Pete and Tampa to solicit investments for two restaurants, using his claims of knighthood, etc to inspire confidence in him. Both restaurants are overdue & overbudget but Irvine was dodging his investors. Those investors contacted the media. Evidently some fact checker got lucky, found a few incongruous stones in his wall of lies and pushed a little. POOF, the whole thing came tumbling down.

255. I hope everyone who enjoys Roberts presence and personality writes to the Food Network and lets them know we do not care what he may or may not have done over 20 years ago. Trying to replace him is a BIG mistake. He is a true talent and fun to watch. You can leave a comment on their website.
