Gossip & Rumors
"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

17. Actually, Christopher, the British food that I've eaten wasn't half bad. Though, I'm sure, just as any other country, England has culinary flops.

But um... who cares if this dude lied? As someone else pointed out, people lie on their resumes all the damn time. It's not THAT big a deal. Does the St. Petersburg Times have nothing better to do?

18. Went to London, the breakfast was bad, and they call the sausage bangers. OK. Lunch Fish & chips. OK Dinner, overcooked meat, no seasoning, overcooked veggies. Lima beans-not ok. Went to an Indian restaurant the next day. Success ! The native food is horrible, in my humble opinion.

19. Oh well, I guess his goose is cooked! To #7, it's a shame that most people are liars. I have been trying to teach my students all year that telling lies is one of the worst things a person can do and that it only makes things worse in the long run. Hopefully this jerk chef will admit that he lied instead of digging a deeper hole for himself.

20. He was only 17 when Prince Chuck married Di. I seriously hope he didn't have a large part of the baking or decorating process. They must have had more accomplished or experienced bakers for such an historical event.

21. He helped design Prince Charles and Diana's wedding cake? And he would have been what.......16 years old? Red flag right there.

22. The "thorough" investigation must have started upon the realization that the guy was 15 or 16 when Chuck and Di got married. Hmm...baking prodigy or liar? The reporter in St. Petersburg obviously didn't think this guy was the Doogie Howser of wedding cakes.

24. well, considering how many "Indians" are now Brits after generations of being born in the UK, Indian food is pretty "native" - dont you think?

25. the real investigation should be in relation to his taking performance enhancing substances.

30. Doesn't anyone check people's resume's anymore? Can one just write whatever they damn well want and say, "Oh yeh, that was me!"? Hey Food Network, shame on you for not checking this guy's credentials in the first place!

Got caught with your aprons down.
