"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

47. Actually, Christopher, the British food that I've eaten wasn't half bad. Though, I'm sure, just as any other country, England has culinary flops.

But um... who cares if this dude lied? As someone else pointed out, people lie on their resumes all the damn time. It's not THAT big a deal. Does the St. Petersburg Times have nothing better to do?

52. Loser!! Have you seen the intro to his show???? Who hasn't he cooked for.....I guess his thinking was, make the lie so over the top that it has to be true? WTF, Scripps Network couldn't do a quick background check on this guy? I mean come on, he claims to have been both a White House chef and cooked for the Queen of England. How many guys in the market really have those chops? Apparently not this this necked, slow witted dolt. Back to the diner slinging hash browns you moron!

Peace!!

53. How strange......I have a clear and distinct memory of decorating and icing their cake as well as the Prince Of Bahrain. Then I did the wedding dress of Catherine Zeta Jones on my spare time NEXT!

54. If all it takes to get a gig on Food Network is some outrageous lie, count me in. Perhaps Food Network might do themselves a favor by checking backgrounds BEFORE they try to make someone a star

55. He was born in 1965, that would have made him 15/16 at the time of the wedding depending on when his actual birthday is.

56. who knows if he lied to the food network. he may have been completely honest with them, so when they checked him out he was legit. so what if he embellished things a bit for some yokels in florida, who bought it - hook, line and sinker. he's a good chef, and yeah, i'd do him in a minute.
