"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

92. Great chef or not, one should not lie about their experience. Too many liars out there.

93. So what. He know's what he's doing..I'm not sure anyone of us hasn't embellished at one time or another. Big Deal.

94. " most people are liars,,,whacha gonna do?" ?????????
What kind of an attitude is that? Very sad. Is not complacency one of the big problems today? Expect more , get more. Aparently this person was never held to a highter standard as a child or as an adult, or has become tragically disillusioned and jaded. Obviously he is not someone whose word I would trust.

95. Rachel Ray lies all the time. She's not really a cook. She only started doing it to make money and it wasn't always a passion of her's. I didn't believe Robert when he said he baked Princess Di and Prince Charles' wedding cake. It was so random when he said it and he said he doesn't do any baking.

97. Oh, leave him alone. If that airhead Rachel Ray can pretend she's a cook in her Betty Crocker play kitchen and make millions at it, then why single this guy out.
Have to run....Rachel is making homemade lasagna using 25 canned ingredients! Yummo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

99. I love his show, I also get a kick out of watching him. If what happened here in any way jeopardizes his show, I will be very disappointed.

100. I can't stand Rachel Ray.....she's so all over herself. Didn't like her from the beginning - fraud to get in. I like Robert Irvine - I never once thought he had anything to do w/ THE CAKE. So what. Foodnetwork needs to get there shows together.
I crack myself up, hehe!!! Get's on my nerves - grow up Ray!!! Who cares about your life anyway. Now she looks down on everyone - like she is so much better than everyone else. "Look kids, I'm good and your not".

101. No, TMZ, it is NOT odd that the St. Pete Times did an "oddly thorough investigation". Irvine swept into St. Pete about 2 years ago tossing about his fabricated past history - including his insistence he should be referred to as Sir Irvine, due to a highly exclusive knighthood bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth. So exclusive the Queen isn't even aware of it! Supposedly he was here to drum up support for 2 new restaurants he was opening - Ooze and Schmooze (and yes, just the names should have made one suspicious!) and claims that he would turn St. Pete into the "new Monaco" (whatever! and why?) It is now 2 years later and Irvine owes money to several local investors and vendors in the 6 figure range and more, there are is no Ooze and Schmooze, no "new Monaco" and no Sir Irvine. Just an eyesore on our beautiful Beach St. Waterfront. Florida seems to be a mecca for scam artists, except this time it was a nationally recognized chef that happened to be a more creative and outrageous liar than usual. I would think that the Food Network would have more concern about "Sir Irvine's" behavior as it places ALL their chefs in a bad light.

103. I ABSOLUTLEY ADORE CHEF IRVINE. HIS TALENTS ARE APPARENT IN HIS COOKBOOK ALONE. HE DID COOK FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY, SO HE CARES ABOUT A STUPID WEDDING CAKE. I LOVE HIS SHOW AND HE SHOULD NOT BE PENALIZED OR SCRUTINIZED FOR THIS

104. From reading the story embedded in this article it sounds like this guy has some major self-image issues. Too bad what he did to that town in Florida -- goes way beyond claims that he made Charles & Di's cake.
