Will to WENN: You Can't Put Words in My Mouth!

Will Smith does not -- repeat, does not -- think Hitler was anything but a despicable murderer, and today a London court awarded him damages because a news service falsely alleged that he had called Hitler "a good person."

Smith won a public apology and damages in London's High Court today from World Entertainment News Network (WENN). Will's lawyer, according to the AP, told the court that the story that WENN spread was "deeply distressing" and caused Smith "acute embarrassment."

WENN'S lawyer apologized in court and agreed to pay an unspecified amount to Smith, who will donate the money to charity. Smith was not in court.

49. He won't donate it to 'charity', he will donate it to scientology.
Tom Cruise has recruited him as a member.
Oh, and donations to scientology are tax-deductable...

It's a shame, I like Will a LOT, I feel really bad that he's been pulled in by the brainwashing cult.

50. Will Smith is a fabulous person and actor. How anyone could believe such a stupid thing would come out of such an intelligent man's mouth is beyond me.

51. Glad he took it to court. There are too many false "quotes" and even complete fabricated quotes and stories floating around.

52. I'm glad that the courts cleared Will's name. I never believed the story in the first place.
I must have missed something though, when did Cruise recruit him? Is there something weird in the water in California or do you think they're giving people special bottled stuff? I find it hard to believe that all these actors are idiots but it seems to be true.

53. Good. TMZ should apologize also for fanning the flames of this story. Most intelligent people knew what he was saying but TMZ and many other agencies were thrilled to jump on this story and try to smear Will Smith as some kind of Nazi. I'm happy to see they at least ran this story.

54. Good for Will. What a rotten thing to do to an intelligent man. I am so proud that he is giving the damage money to charity. He truly is a Prince :)

55. Good for him. He not only stood up for himself not letting media put words in his mouth but donating the award to charity scores him big points. No one can say he only sued for the $$$ involved. I always thought he was a good guy, it's nice to have that supported.

58. I absolutely NEVER, for one moment, believed Will Smith said anything REMOTELY as reported.

I hope Will's winning this suit will send a message to those who are quick to twist words for a fast headline!

59. Hi dumbasses. If you've never wondered why celebrities take British publications to court for slander a million times more often than they take US publications, it's because the laws relating to slander over there are different from ours, and MUCH easier for a plantiff to win. I don't know if Will Smith was quoted accurately or not but the fact that he won this court case doesn't prove it. Liberace- won a slander suit in the UK against a columnist who implied that he was gay and I guess we all know how that turned out.
