Academy Screws Renfro, In Memoriam

Brad RenfroSo in case you missed it, Brad Renfro was ignored during the "in memoriam" montage on the Oscars last night. You're not gonna believe the statement the Academy gave TMZ.

The tape featured 50 movie types who died in the last year. They included actors, studio execs, makeup artists, agents, and on and on. Renfro was nowhere to be seen. We asked the Academy why and they gave us the following statement: "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment."

Interesting. Renfro, whose credits include "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers," seems like a bigger player than Margaret Gardner, the head of the international division of a P.R. firm.

Someone in Renfro's world called the slap in the face "unbelievable and disgusting." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

212. I read this year's oscars had a very low tv audience. I myself watched NASCAR. Even Tom Cruise chose NASCAR over the Oscars (I saw the scientology nut there). The only good thing I saw from clips of the oscars is the women that wore the RED DRESSES;

Ha Ha Hollywood can't compete with NASCAR.

213. Hopefully, Roy Scheider will make next year's list. They listed their Memoriam dates form January 31, 2007-February 1, 2008. Roy died on the 10th.

214. thank you, tmz, for acknowledging and running this story. it is a horrible and offensive thing the academy did on sunday. i would also partially blame the media for not picking up the story after he died. it's good to know that someone is cares, if not for brad, then for good reporting's sake.

215. The Academy has once again earned the disrepect of the viewing audience .
Brad was deliberatly forgotten from what I understand .These choices are political .They are not made by the academy members at large but some inside group at the top.
My mother Yvonne DFe Carlo was delibertly omitted from the in memorium segment and I was told by unnamed lower staff that although they voted for her that
"SHE WAS DELIBERTLY VOTED DOWN FROM THE TOP ."
Those upper staff people are unnamed .
Yet They want us to accept thier choices and they want to SHAPE PUBLIC OPINION WHIL E GOING UNNAMED .
I understand the Academy Awards has recieved it lowest viewership rating ever DOWN TWENTY PERCENT THIS YEAR.
IN PANDERING TO UNNAMED SPECIAL INTERST GROUPS the Academy has tuned out and America is turning them off in great numbers .
LETS HERE IT FOR FOUNDING A NEW ACADEMY !!

216. I just read the comments by Ms. De Carlo's son and I agree completely. Yvonne De Carlo was the ultimate movie actress, talented, beautiful and a real show business trooper. She not only deserved to be in the tribute but should have been nominated for an oscar for her roles in The Captain's Paradise, Hotel Sahara, Criss Cross and The Ten Commandments. Technicolor was made for her and there is no one who can take her place in movie history. God Bless her!

219. It's a very lame excuse...Brad was a great actor, no one has mentioned Bully, He was an actor, I cannot believe they had agnts and P.R. people. Boo to the ACADEMY. Just apologize.

221. It thought I was the only one who noticed. I remembered that Brad died a week or so before Heath bc I saw it on TMZ. It's never good when someone so young dies and it does have a great impact. Agents were mentionned but not an A-list actor? I really don't get it. At least it seems that Brad will be remembered by a lot of people.

222. I really liked Renfoe and thought highly of his acting abiliities. Until the Acadamey issues an appology I will boycott the Oscars and encourage others to do so as well.

223. The Academy also neglected to mention Yvonne De Carlo, the beautiful actress that graced the silver screen for over 5 decades. She also starred on Broadway and, of course, was Lily Munster on television and in films.

224. I guess he was not considered Oscar worth mentioning, which is sad considering the amazing performance he did in his frst role with Susan Sarandon. Very sad an industry that makes you and forgets you.

225. Idiot comments aside, B. Renfro's mysterious exclusion from that segment was inexcusable!!!

I felt the exact same way when after what felt like only a day or two, the SAG Awards did basically the exact same thing to Heath Ledger and gave him all of like four seconds and gave everyone the impression that all this brilliant young actor did was 'Brokeback Mountain.'

Get a clue, Oscars......and get it right next time!!!
