Academy Screws Renfro, In Memoriam

Brad RenfroSo in case you missed it, Brad Renfro was ignored during the "in memoriam" montage on the Oscars last night. You're not gonna believe the statement the Academy gave TMZ.

The tape featured 50 movie types who died in the last year. They included actors, studio execs, makeup artists, agents, and on and on. Renfro was nowhere to be seen. We asked the Academy why and they gave us the following statement: "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment."

Interesting. Renfro, whose credits include "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers," seems like a bigger player than Margaret Gardner, the head of the international division of a P.R. firm.

Someone in Renfro's world called the slap in the face "unbelievable and disgusting." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

16. For those commenting on Roy Schrider, he died passed the deadline. He'll be mentioned (unless they forget him too) in next year's Oscars.

17. Another example of how elistist and out of touch the whole organization is. They also went out of their way to exclude Whoopi Goldberg from the montage of previous Oscar hosts, although she hosted 4 times!!!!

18. I am really dissappointed in the Academy. what a major diss. they couldnt even honor in after death.
i mean if it had something to do with cause of death then its a load of crap because not to taking anything away from Heath Ledger, but they both died of drug overdoeses.. This is really messed up if you ask me!
Brad was a very talented actor and should have been part of the memorial tribute last night.. RIP Brad!

19. Yeah that was definately a big mistake on there part, he was a very talented actor and should have been remembered. I hate the oscars anyways so needless to say I wont ever watch again.

20. So what? They did the same thing to Jonathan Brandis. Every award show ignored him except for the SAG awards.

21. He was never nominated for nor did he win an Oscar. He also was not part of the Academy. That is why he was not included.

22. The guy in essence killed himself with drugs....should we really be honoring that?? What kind of message would that send to our children and the rest of hollywood. Someone needs to slap these young hollywood types and get them to wake up and see what they are doing. If they have as much talet as they think they do, they need to be more careful in the decision they make. I feel bad for the families that are left behind...period, not for them.

23. Ok, so what, he was a druggy and he should be remember? are you kidding me?
Oh lets put a guy who is a druggy in the memoriam let our kids say "I want to grow up to be just like him" and die from drugs so i can be remembered in the Oscars. you all need a life.

25. roy shnieider wasn't on the tribute because he passed away in 2008, not 2007

26. It's probably because he died of a drug overdose...They didn't want to show memories of someone that abused illegal drugs so they kept him out... I mean, that's the only reason I can really think of. . .

27. Get the man's name right, toontown. It is Scheider.

28. way Way WAY screwed!! Not only that but Heath Ledger's pic seemed to be a quick edit job. The academy needs to seriously apologize to Brad's family. Regardless of HOW he died, he deserved the same respect as anyone else they showed.

29. And here I thought I must have missed him. What a bunch of assholes, I didn't know most of the old people they had shown. At one point they came back to let some woman speack who they cut off, why couldn't they say ( hey we made another mistake and we ment to include Brad.

30. to me @ 1:27 - I think it's a tribute to the cinematic art of those who have passed, and not a tribute to the departed's lifestyle.
I agree with you on the families, which is why mentioning them is so important; it's for the families. The dead can't see it.
