Academy Screws Renfro, In Memoriam

Brad RenfroSo in case you missed it, Brad Renfro was ignored during the "in memoriam" montage on the Oscars last night. You're not gonna believe the statement the Academy gave TMZ.

The tape featured 50 movie types who died in the last year. They included actors, studio execs, makeup artists, agents, and on and on. Renfro was nowhere to be seen. We asked the Academy why and they gave us the following statement: "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment."

Interesting. Renfro, whose credits include "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers," seems like a bigger player than Margaret Gardner, the head of the international division of a P.R. firm.

Someone in Renfro's world called the slap in the face "unbelievable and disgusting." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

32. way Way WAY screwed!! Not only that but Heath Ledger's pic seemed to be a quick edit job. The academy needs to seriously apologize to Brad's family. Regardless of HOW he died, he deserved the same respect as anyone else they showed.

34. I thought they only include Academy members in the Memorial. And to the poster who mentioned Roy Scheider... he died after the cut-off date. He will be included next year.

35. wasn't the tribute's for 2007, not 2008?

36. to me @ 1:27 - I think it's a tribute to the cinematic art of those who have passed, and not a tribute to the departed's lifestyle.
I agree with you on the families, which is why mentioning them is so important; it's for the families. The dead can't see it.

37. And here I thought I must have missed him. What a bunch of assholes, I didn't know most of the old people they had shown. At one point they came back to let some woman speack who they cut off, why couldn't they say ( hey we made another mistake and we ment to include Brad.

38. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF DRUGS. It is because he never won an Oscar, was never nominated for an Oscar, and is not a member of the Academy.

39. IMO, it sounds like they didn't have the guts to admit they screwed up and instead just made an excuse.

It is not as though the Oscars are relevant anyway. They are to hollywood what the Espys are to sports. Nothing more than meaningless awards that are give to over inflated egos.

40. He was a drug addict. They should not give him any kudos for that. Junkies suck!!

41. The tribute was for 2007. Refro died in 2008. He, along with Scheider will be in that tribute.

43. If they paid tribute to anyone that was ever in a movie that overdosed we would still be watching the show.

44. that picture is disgusting and tasteless. oh, and unbelievable and disgusting.

45. I just heard that this year's Academy Awards will go down as the least watched Oscars. I don't blame people for not watching. Who wants to see overpaid actors and actresses acting fake while the country is in an economic disaster. It's time to quit idolizing these self absorb individuals. Start focusing on the presidential candidates for a much needed change in D.C.
