Academy Screws Renfro, In Memoriam

Brad RenfroSo in case you missed it, Brad Renfro was ignored during the "in memoriam" montage on the Oscars last night. You're not gonna believe the statement the Academy gave TMZ.

The tape featured 50 movie types who died in the last year. They included actors, studio execs, makeup artists, agents, and on and on. Renfro was nowhere to be seen. We asked the Academy why and they gave us the following statement: "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment."

Interesting. Renfro, whose credits include "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers," seems like a bigger player than Margaret Gardner, the head of the international division of a P.R. firm.

Someone in Renfro's world called the slap in the face "unbelievable and disgusting." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

31. wasn't the tribute's for 2007, not 2008?

32. I thought they only include Academy members in the Memorial. And to the poster who mentioned Roy Scheider... he died after the cut-off date. He will be included next year.

33. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF DRUGS. It is because he never won an Oscar, was never nominated for an Oscar, and is not a member of the Academy.

34. The tribute was for 2007. Refro died in 2008. He, along with Scheider will be in that tribute.

35. Get the man's name right. It is Scheider.

36. Perhaps the Academy didn't want to show any sympathy for druggies. He wasn't as big as Heath Ledger, so they counted him out.

37. If they paid tribute to anyone that was ever in a movie that overdosed we would still be watching the show.

39. I just heard that this year's Academy Awards will go down as the least watched Oscars. I don't blame people for not watching. Who wants to see overpaid actors and actresses acting fake while the country is in an economic disaster. It's time to quit idolizing these self absorb individuals. Start focusing on the presidential candidates for a much needed change in D.C.

40. Hello! The tribute was for 2007. He died in January of 2008. You'd think TMZ would get their facts straight before shooting off at the mouth about the injustice and contacting his family. Jeez, do I little investigating first.

41. I bet he is turning over in his grave...or his urn...

42. Roy Scheider passed away on February 8, 2008. The memorium on the show last night were deaths up to January 31, 2008.
It is unbelievable that they would forget someone as young and talented as Brad, and they should apologize to his family.

43. Nobody cares about the oscars and nobody cares about a worthless drug addict.

44. Hell, I never even heard of Renfro until he died. He was a third-rate celebrity, to be sure. And you'd better believe that a PR guru like Margaret Gardner had a far greater impact on Hollywood than this virtually unknown actor!

45. 13. Did you see all the nobodys they had on there? And they could not include Brad Renfro???? I had heard of maybe 2 of the people in the segment!!!!!!!

RESPONSE: That just makes you out to be uncultured and idiotic. I am sure you know the main star of the Hottie and the Nottie and all MTV Real Worlds after 2002 right?
