Academy Screws Renfro, In Memoriam

Brad RenfroSo in case you missed it, Brad Renfro was ignored during the "in memoriam" montage on the Oscars last night. You're not gonna believe the statement the Academy gave TMZ.

The tape featured 50 movie types who died in the last year. They included actors, studio execs, makeup artists, agents, and on and on. Renfro was nowhere to be seen. We asked the Academy why and they gave us the following statement: "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment."

Interesting. Renfro, whose credits include "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers," seems like a bigger player than Margaret Gardner, the head of the international division of a P.R. firm.

Someone in Renfro's world called the slap in the face "unbelievable and disgusting." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

91. The actors mentioned in the death tribute were, if not all marquee names, at least character actors with a career spanning the decades. Renfro's career barely got him out of adolescence, although even that could be argued since he never outgrew the temptation of serious drug usage.

92. ================================================================================================
SOMEONE SAID, "7. They only include people that were nominated for or, worked with a movie that was nominated for, or won an Oscar.

THAT IS NOT TRUE. THEY INCLUDED EDIE BEALE WHEN SHE DIED. WHEN DID SHE GET THE OSCAR?

Then why didn't they just say that, instead of coming up with an excuse?.

94. Oscars are a TV ratings dud
2/25/2008, 12:47 p.m. EST
The Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — The Oscars are a ratings dud. Nielsen Media Research says preliminary ratings for the 80th annual Academy Awards telecast are 14 percent lower than the least-watched ceremony ever.
Nielsen said Monday that overnight ratings are also 21 percent lower than last year, when "The Departed" was named best picture.

96. To "Shut it Morons". YOU are the moron, MORON! Roy Scheider died AFTER the date of January 31at. Brad Renfro DID NOT. He passed on January 15th. If my math serves me correctly, this was 16 days BEFORE the deadline! So, before speweing your crap, read up first! Tool!

97. The reason for the low ratings was that only one of the Best Picture nominees broke the $50 million box office mark, meaning few people saw the key nominated films.

98. I've never watched this stupid show, and now I NEVER will. He was a great actor. He made mistakes. Just because he may have been a junkie, doesn't take away from his acting. The Client, was a phenomenal movie and he did a wonderful job. Why not recognize that? Jerks.

99. TMZ you make your living off of "screwing people" I bet you can totally relate to the sleazy disappointing politics...whether you admit it or not

100. I was referring to their lame ass excuse. "It is simply not possible to include everyone in that segment." That is the lamest excuse i have ever seen. If they honor him next year, I will be fine. Why didn't they just say he died OUTSIDE the time frame. THAT is the cop out I was referring to, Ken.

101. Yea, it is so awful that they (Oscars) can forget such a talented kid, but God Forbid, they are not going to forget talking all that political crap on an awards show.

102. I don't waste my time watching the Oscars anymore.....It's nothing but a Political clan and the votes aren't done on what actually is the best picture, actor, actress etc. It's who's who in Hollywood and not based on quality.. never was and never will be.

103. did they honor heath ledger? i didn't see this part. but i think they should have at least showed a pic or something from the movie the client. i thought that was up for some awards at one time. maybe??
p.s i think the oscars r boring anyways. they show soo much that i don't even have a clue on it. and half the movies that r nominated, i've never even seen a preview for.
this year i did see the movie sweeny todd, i think depp was nominated cause it was such a dif role for him and he sang..he can do anything..he's awesome. sorry u didn't win johnny :(
