Renfro Not Feel Good Enough for Oscar?

Brad RenfroSo why did the Academy snub Brad Renfro by not including him in the memoriam? The Academy is pretty much tight as a drum.

A flack tells us a small group of people make extremely difficult choices but refused to say what criteria are used to make those decisions. She added we shouldn't waste our time cause no one would discuss it further.

Could it have something to do with the circumstances surrounding Renfro's death? It's uncomfortable to applaud when an actor dies from an overdose. Of course, exceptions must be made for huge stars who OD. Heath Ledger made the cut.

The red carpet wasn't the only thing that was sanitized last night.

31. The Academy forgot a few people. They did not mention Floyd Red Crow Westerman, who passed away on 12/13/07. He played Chief Ten Bears in the Oscar winning movie Dances With Wolves. He also was in The Doors, Hidalgo, and the upcoming Swing Vote.

The Academy also did not mention Whoopee Goldberg in the past host montage.

They did not mention many of the stars who were honored at the recent SAG awards.

I feel that it showed they did not put enough thought into that segment of the show....Thank you...

32. He was a junkie. He should not be recognized. He was not an upstanding citizen. Shooting up & flipping off the cameras-what a tacky guy. Bye Byre!

33. This could be because of a cut off date with editing a video. The video didn't show the character who played Brody on JAWS. He passed away in early February.

34. Why does everyone on TMZ always argue?
Can't we all just get along? If you disagree with the decision of the Academy to omit Renfro, contact them at http://www.oscars.org/contact/general.html because I doubt that they are gonna care what we think if we don't tell them!! peace....

35. OK, was this guy not honored because he wasn't hot, or was it because he was a fat slob and a jerk ?

It certainly wasn't the drugs.

36. Ledger was the only young person in the clip, after Swank said it included several young people whose work was done but whose best work would never be seen. That's a lot of words for one pic - also the Ledger pic was "blink-and-you'll-miss-it", which was pretty offensive in its own right. I'm wondering if Renfro was pulled at the last minute.

37. It's time the public wakes up and realizes how the media and Hollywood are manipulating you and subverting your lives to their own agendas. This is just another example, ignoring one young dead actor and glorifying another, both abusing drugs. I'm not surprised that the ratings for the Oscar Awards Show is at an all-time low.

Jon Stewart is not funny. He has a bitter presentation, nothing warm or funny or interesting. He's too busy trying to be uber smart and political.

38. He wasnt mentioned cause he wasnt a member of the acadamy. He had never before been nominated, won or evan a presenter. Nothing personal against him. He was a oscar hopeful as a kid and had a promising future but he went a different direction career wise.

39. It happened before. They didn't honor River Phoenix when he died. I didn't see them honoring Roy Scheider either. Which is odd, because Jaws is like cult.

40. This is simple. Hollywood is a giant high school, and Heath was one of the cool kids while Brad wasn't. His out of control addiction and behavior made people uncomfortable, so he was an outcast, but a very talented outcast, and one deserving of that final recognition at the Oscars.

Also, this is the result of the mad, mass rationalization that "it was just an accident" and "it was prescription drugs, not icky street drugs. Get over it, Hollywood, they were one and the same, and kindred to addicts and alcoholics like the Olsens, Lohan, Spears, Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Nicole Ritchie, etc., etc., etc.

The Oscar snub last night was cruel, unnecessary, disrespectful, tacky, and completely transparent.

44. this is crazy! this young man deserved to be mentioned just as much as any actor who passes. Look at elvis! he used drugs and he is still an idol. We need not remember the bad but the good and the accomplishments they make in life.

45. I believe they only include members of the academy, which means people who have previously been nominated for an award. I don;t think Brad Renfro was ever nominated for anything.
