Renfro Not Feel Good Enough for Oscar?

Brad RenfroSo why did the Academy snub Brad Renfro by not including him in the memoriam? The Academy is pretty much tight as a drum.

A flack tells us a small group of people make extremely difficult choices but refused to say what criteria are used to make those decisions. She added we shouldn't waste our time cause no one would discuss it further.

Could it have something to do with the circumstances surrounding Renfro's death? It's uncomfortable to applaud when an actor dies from an overdose. Of course, exceptions must be made for huge stars who OD. Heath Ledger made the cut.

The red carpet wasn't the only thing that was sanitized last night.

76. Renfro made 21 films over the years and was very talented.

Renfro was discovered by Mali Finn, a casting director for Joel Schumacher, when he was ten. His only previous acting experience was as a dealer in an anti-drugs workshop school production. Cast by Finn for Schumacher's The Client, Renfro acted alongside Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. The movie was based on the bestselling John Grisham novel and became one of the top-grossing films of 1994. In 1995, he won Hollywood Reporter's "Young Star" award, and was nominated as one of People's "Top 30 Under 30."[citation needed] That year, he played Huck Finn in 1995's Tom and Huck with Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

In 1996, he was cast in Sleepers, based on the novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra. The film was directed by Barry Levinson and also starred Robert de Niro, Kevin Bacon, Dustin Hoffman and Brad Pitt.

In 1998, he starred opposite Ian McKellen in Apt Pupil, directed by Bryan Singer. Renfro went on to act in other films, including 2001's Ghost World and Bully and 2005's The Jacket. He also appeared in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent and completed filming on the yet unreleased movie The Informers, co-starring Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton.

77. For what it's worth, they didn't include Anna Nicole Smith either. She wasn't included in last year's memoriam, either.

78. He should have been included. And all the hype about Heath Ledger was just ridiculous. He was an addict. He did not "accidentally" overdose. Anytime someone takes that many drugs, prescription or otherwise, you better damn well think you're gonna die from it.

79. They left off Tom Poston as well. How horrid is that!

82. You said it #9 unfair. Always was and always will be.

83. In my opinion, they simply forgot him -- and now probably regret it because they shouldn't have forgot him.

84. Roy Scheider should've been included.

85. He's acted since age ten and the snooty leaders of the film industry don't like hillbilly's that make good and are bad except in small numbers.. so to show how many stars and movie industry workers overdosed, lived dangerously and died this year would be bad publicity for Hollywood and California.

Renfro was found dead on January 15, 2008 in his Los Angeles apartment.[8] On February 8, 2008, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office ruled that Renfro's death was accidental and was attributed to acute heroin/morphine intoxication.[9]

He was returned to East Tennessee for his funeral and burial. He was laid to rest on January 22, 2008, on a quiet hill at Red House Cemetery north of Knoxville in the small community of Blaine, Tennessee. [10]

Less than two weeks later, his grandmother, Joanne Barron Renfro, who had raised him from the age of five and accompanied him regularly during his early acting career, died at her home at the age of 76. [11] Local officials stated that she died of natural causes. [12]

86. Brad Renfro, Joey Bishop, Roy Scheider all missing in action. All members of the academy. Roy being a previous oscar nominee, Joey Bishop a previous presenter. So, is the montage for the academy or for the public that buys the tickets? The academy didn't mind taking their money when they were alive, or their support. We could use a lot less dance sequences and a better memorial for those who have left us.

87. He definately SHOULD HAVE been included. There shouldn't be any type of "criteria" that one should meet when they pass away. Of all people, I thought the Academy would respect this. It's basically a slap in the face to his existance...Way to go ACADEMY.

88. "Less than two weeks later, his grandmother, Joanne Barron Renfro, who had raised him from the age of five and accompanied him regularly during his early acting career, died at her home at the age of 76. Local officials stated that she died of natural causes."

So he was raised by his grandmother, parents MIA, and now his family that wasn't around his whole life cares that his name wasn't mentioned for one second on tv.?

They both should have been mentioned back to back. They both died of Drug OD. The only reason Heath's death was mentioned is because he died from the White version of Drugs. You know - Pills and Brad died of Herion - considered the black drug of choice. Trust me, if Crad was found in his hotel room surrounded by pills and such -he would of been mentioned.

90. Scheider was left out because the video stated it was from February 1st 2007 to January 31st 2008. Scheider died February 10th. They have to have a deadline or it will never end. Scheider will, not doubt, be on next years.
