"Idol" Contestant Wigs Out

After once being linked to Britney Spears, "American Idol" contestant Robbie Carrico picked up one of the popwreck's habits -- a love for wigs!

TMZ has learned the 26-year-old long-haired wannabe's mane is actually a wig and it's got "Idol" execs flipping out. Sources tell us Robbie never talks about his matted down piece and that makes production members feel like it's the blonde elephant in the room. It seems Simon was right last night -- Robbie is a fake!

Where's Sanjaya's pony-hawk or Kat McPhee's extensions when you need them?!

A rep for "Idol" would not comment.

34. What I would like to know is if the person making the RUDE comments about West Virginia has ever been to the state? I've lived here all of my life and traveled to MANY other states and can tell you there are "rednecks" (as you call them) in EVERY state, not just West Virginia. I have a college education, a good paying job, as many others in our beautiful state. I'm sure that the commenter isn't perfect either and shouldn't be passing judgement upon others.

37. Funny Funny. I have been watching IDOL this year and I saw him so I went to see his website on myspace I think it was and so recently he still had the short white-blonde hair. So I was wondering how he could possibly have gotten this long rocker hair so fast.....yea never thought he would go so far as a wig.

43. it's most definitely a wig, or something of the sort, i've been trying to figure out what is up with his hair (mainly because its utterly distracting when he tries to "rock"). He should just get extensions they look way better and it will hide his obviously thinning hair...even better shave it off, long hair is lame. Plus, a shaved head would go better with his boyband/rockgod image.

45. When rocker guys grow their hair long it's to look rock n' roll, anti-establishment, whatever, so when a guy buys his hair just to look cool, it's pathetic. It'd be one thing if he had cancer, but it seems like he wears a wig to look rock n roll, instead of actually BEING rock n roll. What a poser. If he was really that person he would have been growing his hair for years. Instead it's like he decided what his image should be for the show and he bought a cheap wig as a way of attaining that.

He should get extensions if he doesn't want anyone to know.
