I agree, John Mayer knew exactly what he was doing. That guy just wanted to get the pick guard signed and place it on some cheap guitar and sell it for some over inflated price. It's John's name and the guy would profit from it. He probably will sign photos and albums, but items could make revenue and cheat his real fans. Good for you Mayer!

a couple of you came to the correct conclusion...

the guy was obviously going to put it on a strat and auction it on eBay
