Ellen Torn Up Over Gay Murder

Ellen DeGeneres broke from comedy for a few minutes on the show she taped today and got deadly serious.

Ellen looked into camera and talked about the murder of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old student in Oxnard, Ca. King, who was gay, was allegedly shot to death by a fellow male student whom he asked to be his Valentine.

Ellen was on the verge of tears and as close to political as she gets. The show airs tomorrow, check local listings.

31. What was a child doing with a gun? We need toughter gun control laws to deal with the violence in this country.

32. Anyone can be offended. A skinny person might be offended if a fat person were to ask them out, or beautiful person might be offended if a ugly person ask them out. A rich person might be offended if a poor person were to aske them out- so what!!! Life is going to be full of people offending others. This never gives us the right to go and kill the offender. This is just wrong. By law, you dont even get the okay to kill a person who has just molested your child, and I cant think of a crime that is worse. Because this kid asked another kid to be his valentine gives him the okay to kill?? This kid must have had some other mental defect, and unfortunately this kid was the target of all his built up hatred in his life.

I personally dont condone the homosexual lifestyle, but I would never disrespet or treat them any different. I am not their judge. I can only do what is best for me.

34. it's really sad, i'm a Catholic so i really am not "in favour of" gay people, and some people may think i'm a moron for that - but hey, i keep my opinions to myself and I respect other people's choices as they should respect mine - i would never think of insulting or protesting against and totally never would harm gay people, or people with any other beliefs... of course black kids get killed every day Crabby, and also latinos get discriminated, and people with cancer die every die and babies are born addicted to meth, life is unfair to most, but there are many issues and none is more important than the other

35. Thank you, Ellen for trying to put a positive spin on such a heart wrenching story. Awareness!
We all need to realize that people hate for any reason that they choose. Someone "hates" each and everyone of us for some reason. Even for being American! We are who we are and that's it. None of us are from they same mold and that's why we are individuals. Posters can go ahead and start on me with the attacks and name-calling. I am comfortable with who I am and I'm ok with people living their own lives. Besides..... opinions are like belly buttons....
I won't be responding to attacks because I won't feed into the ignorance.
I (and everyone I know) LOVE you Ellen just for BEING YOU. Go on with your bad little self!
Thoughts go out to Larry, Brandon, family and friends. :(

36. JOSH: I agree with you. This is important. And every parent should take concern about their child no matter what. Even though this is an issue that needs to be addressed, I see many other issues that no one seems to be mentioning.

Why is a 15-year-old carrying a gun?
What happened to basic human respect toward life?
Why aren't the parents of the kid who did the shooting being held responsible as well?

I feel all of these points are as valid as any other surrounding this tragic situation.

37. "I feel bad for the boy and his family but gay people cannot go around and ask a non gay person to be there "valentine." It might and it did offend a non gay person. Why can't people understand that?"
Lori - you have GOT to be kidding...that is so ignorant. Wow. Why should it offend a "non gay" person? What's offensive about that [and never mind how offensive your own ignorance is]?!
Just say thank you and be flattered that anyone would want to be your Valentine.
Wow.

38. TMZ staff...what was your point at posting this clip? To mock ELLEN and her "I'm crying on air again"? That's it, isn't?

Well, what you've managed to do instead is lead the way for ignorant SOBs to treat (posts) Lawrence King [in death] as he was treated in life.

Congrats. [/sarcasm]

*shame on you for exploiting not only the death of a child, but the misery of the child that took his life*

39. I am an over weight straight black male and I know what it feels like to be judged, I've always been an easy going guy live and let live I always say, but I think homosexuals need to be very careful and considerate when they express their love for someone, other wise as in this case a person could react very violently even though it was only meant to tell someone how they felt.

42. Is Ellen trying to get some kind of movement or attention to the supposed "they're all out to get us gays" routine? No we're not, and these kind of crimes are rare these days since Gays got their Federal rights. Move on Ellen, its a tiresome topic that is not relevant since the Wyoming Cowboy Murder.

Puppy dogs and Gays, but Black children murdered daily and nary if ever a word from this White cry baby. give it a rest and not all of us would want a valentine from a gay person. I thought they all had built in radar to know who was and who isnt gay like them. Guess not, but dont go acting like gay people are getting murdered left and right these days----they arent.

43. THE ......GUN...ISSUE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HIS PARENTS, IT IS A 10 YEAR FELONY TO NEGLIGENTLY LEAVE A GUN AVAILABLE FOR USE OF ANOTHER, AN ADDITIONAL 2 YEARS IF IT IS A HAND GUN (PISTOL), IF THE GUN IS LOADED, WITHOUT A TRIGGER LOCK, IT IS NEGLIGENCE TO THE .......TREBLE.....3 TIMES THE DAMAGES ORIGINALLY INCURRED.

44. Lori, I knew you'd get attacked if you tell people who are gay that not everyone agree with you. I don't think it should have ever came to murder, but some people don't like if a black person ask them out or a asian, or and race that not them. I would have said, sorry I'm not gay and that's it.

45. She makes me so mad, there are so many inocent children killed everyday and just because he was gay she has to make a big deal. I feel horrible for him but i feel horrible for all the inocent people killed by gun fire. She should do stories on all the inocent children killed by gunfire not just a "GAY" one. It's discusting.. Why doesn't she have a show and cry about all the inocent military men & woman gay or straight that have lost there life for our freedom. Not a show just for "1" gay boy that lost his life. What is she trying to prove? Get points with her gay community? because she sure didn't get any points with me!
