Sprouse Manager Convicted of Molestation

Child star manager Josh Werkman has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor child molestation and misdemeanor sale of alcoholic beverage to a minor.

Werkman entered his plea in on Friday in Ventura County Superior Court. He will be sentenced on April 2.

Werkman manages Cole and Dylan Sprouse, the twin stars of the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." The twins were NOT involved in the case.

Werkman is also CEO of Merimark Entertainment and served as producer on the Sprouse twins' two most recent movies.

Calls to Merimark for comment were not immediately returned. Reps for the Disney Channel had no comment.

Law enforcement tells us Werkman was initially arrested for felony sexual battery by restraint. Sources tell TMZ the alleged victim is a 16-year-old male.

Werkman's lawyer, Steve Cron, says "Josh admitted he annoyed an individual who is a minor and provided that person with alcohol on the day in question. He acknowledged that he used bad judgment on that occasion and that is why he pleaded no contest to the two charges."

UPDATE: TMZ spoke with the prosecutor in the case, Rameen Minoui, who tells us that Werkman must register as a sex offender, and could face up to one year in jail.

49. It's surprisingly easy to condemn a person without walking a meter (let along a mile) in their shoes. Having grown up in Los Angeles, I can attest to the fact that there are tons of teenage gay boys that are constantly prowling for sugar daddies (and no shortage of men who want to be that sugar daddy). In fact there was a famous club just over the hill from where I grew up (Club Tiger Heat) that's still there and which has no age restriction. It's constantly filled with 1500 gay boys and men age 14 and up, all dancing till dawn and often going home with each other at the end. Oh well, gotta love Hollywood.

51. Josh Werkman is obviously very talented and he has no history of this behavior. Why would any of you call him a predator or want to put him under the jail when he hasn't even been to trial for this one incident? I think you guys just demonstrated the lynch mob mentality.

Posted at 6:02PM on Mar 4th 2008 by first time at TMZ

52. Wow, if you think that not calling this man a predator is alright, obviously you are extremely naive about the Justice system and/or you are just plain sick like Werkman.

This didn't go to trial because Werkman plead "no contest" (In other words GUILTY!) to the crime, and if you read, it proves that he was originally arrested for Felony charges, which means he most likely created a plea bargain because he knew if it went to trial he'd be a FELON! Also, for those of you that do not know what "annoyed" means, it's just another way of saying "molested".

It says he was charged with "sexual battery by restraint" this most likely means date rape drugs were used in order to restraint the victim, I can't see that he would tie up his victim. Although you never know with these guys...

53. FirstTime, "sexual battery by restraint" doesn't mean simply date rape drugs. If you read the law, it's definition can be interpreted very broadly (depending on how zealous the officer is who files the report). For example, Lets say Josh took him home with him and they hung out for a while and the boy then said, "can you drive me home now? I live on the other side of town" and Josh said "lets cuddle first" and that leads to kissing or something x rated, that is legally "sexual battery by restraint" since Josh is the "adult" and his actions are technically resulting in the boy being restrained on the premises. Likewise if the boy was made to feel emotionally or psychologically that Josh wanted him to stay there, this is also prosecutable as "restraint".

54. the worst thing is, this guy will probably be allowed to continue to work with underage kids even though he has to register as a sex offender... good ol' Disney!!

55. FIRTS OF ALL YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO STOP SPREADING RUMORS ABOUT THE TWINS DAD AND COLE AND DYLAN ARE NOT INVOLVED INTO THIS CASE. NOT CAUSE THEIR MANAGER DID SOMETHING WRONG, MEANS THE TWINS HAVE TO PAY THE CONSECUENSES COLE AND DYLAN SPROUSE ARE 2 TALENTED GREAT BOYS AND WHATEVER THEIR MANAGER DID THEY DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CASE!!!!

EVERYBODY HAS TO RESPECT COLE AND DYLAN THE BOYS DESERVES RESPECT THE TWINS ARE NOT INVOLVED IN THEIR MANAGER`S CASE.

56. This has everything to do with the twins parents! This case has been bouncing around for quite some time now. The parents have been well aware of the fact that Werkman was charged with a felony involving child molestation and yet they still allowed the boys to be in the company of this man. If anyone in my son's life was even suspected of being a child molester he would be ordered out of my child's life! Now,that this man has been convicted of "child Molestation" why haven't the parents publicaly fired him? There is something very wrong here.

57. You are absolutely correct "For The Kidz". People on this board need to understand that somebody doesn't just go out and get themselves arrested on felony charges. Sure you can go file a complaint at the Police Station, but to actually get somebody ARRESTED (especially on FELONY charges), means that something really went down here.

This man is a sorry excuse for a human being.

I'd also like to throw in, without starting a "rumor", that most of these creeps have more than one victim on there list, and if you read online Werkman lived with the twins for a while. My opinion - YOU CANT TELL ME THAT THESE POORS BOYS HAVENT BEEN ABUSED AS WELL!

58. A buddy of mine is on the force with LAPD. It's funny but we were just talking about this issue a few months ago. He was saying that one of the big problems they have in Hollywood is that minors get star struck when they meet famous, rich, and powerful men in the industry, and they want to do anything to be close to them. Often times they become more then willing to "please" those men sexually if they think it will make those men want to be with them more. He said the police usually only get pulled in to the picture when: 1) The parents find out and freak and file a report. or 2) The teenager feels used and angry when the man stops spending time with them (or begins to ignore them) and the teenager is the one who usually confronts the man and those situations can rapidly escalate out of control and result in the cops showing up and a report then being filed. Anyway, he was telling me that it's become a real problem in LA and they've had to really take liberties to prosecute people in the industry due to how much easier it is for them to get away with that kind of thing than say a guy working at Blockbuster. As such, they tend to really throw the book at you more if you're in that position where minors really want to be close to you and please you.

59. Josh is not a child molester, If you read correctly the only thing he did wrong and it is wrong and he admits
is Give a minor a drink and it was only a sip or two BIG DEAL... This kid drinks more than that during lunch at his
high school..

Posted at 10:05AM on Mar 6th 2008 by Lauren

60. I still really cannot fathom this...I went to high school with Josh and was very good friends with him...we all knew he was gay but I guess during that time, no one really admitted it...it still shocks me about this...we lost tough a few years back....its sad and troubling to hear!!!
