Confirmed: Patrick Swayze Has Cancer

Patrick SwayzeTMZ has confirmed reports that actor Patrick Swayze is suffering from cancer.

Swayze's publicist issued the following statement to TMZ: "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment."

The statement continues, "Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

91. Michael Landon died of pancreatic cancer @54 around two months after the story was leaked to the media. He went on the the Carson show to dispell rumors of his demise, by doing push-ups. Unfortunately pancreatic cancer is the grim reaper.

94. My prayers are with you. As an oncology nurse, pancreatic cancer doesn't have a good outcome, is usually a terminal diagnosis. Chemo and other treatments are usually palliative and may extend life a while, but there is no cure. Very sad.

101. I worked in film for 4 years and Patrick was one of the few gentlemen in the business. He had a great attitiude on the set and was a true professional. How many actors have you seen that will get in there and do some manual labor and help move wooden railroad ties so a shot can get done faster??? Only Patrick. Get better soon !!!!

104. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. In most cases patients diagnosed with the disease live less than three years. My father died of the disease four months after diagnosis. The problem is early detection. There are no methods for detecting the disease in it's early stages, thus by the time it is discovered (via symptoms) it is often too late. You can help by visiting one of these two websites and learning more or making a contribution to fighting the disease. Sadly, while this is one of the most deadly forms of cancer out there, pancreatic cancer research receives only a small fraction of the money donated to cancer research. www.pancan.org or www.lustgarten.org for more info.

I wish Patrick well. I had a huge crush on him in the 80's.

105. That is very sad news. And I'm so very sorry to say that "treatment" for pancreatic cancer usually does not do well. My mother died from pancreatic cancer. Six months from the time of diagnosis until her death. I'm so sorry for him and his family and my prayers go out to them.
