Just curious how you as an attorney have access to Westlaw (free) only once a month. Don't you find it essential to good practice to have everyday access? Are you located in a facility where your ability to move around freely is restricted?

154. GOOD! I think her parents are doing a GREAT job. Tough love is not easy, especially with the whole world second guessing you & projecting on to you. I just wish they would keep this girl out of the shops for her daily photog fix!!!! Get some self respect Brittany! No need to whore yourself out to the media. wendy, what are you getting at? Why dont' you be more direct about what you are asking? You want to know whether I am incarcerated and get access to WEstlaw once a month. The answer is, no.

I practice in a mid-sized boutique firm, so I have 24/7 access to Westlaw as well as a large library with a full time librarian to assist me when doing research. I have access to other databases as well, such as PACER and LEXIS. But logging in to these databases costs money, about $200/hr for the commercial services. Each month the Westlaw representative who covers the large firms in my city will visit the firm and advise on recent additions to the databases and new services offered, and teach tips for conducting more efficient research. Then, she gives each attorney a password that allows free access until midnight so the attorney can use the newly-learned tips for training and experiment with the new databases. I use that time the fourth Wednesday of each month to research issues for my pro bono cases, the probate stuff I am doing for one of my brothers, and just issues that I find interesting.

Yes, my firm lets me move about freely. In fact, it pays for my travel around the country for the depositions I attend, which takes up about 1/3 of my time.

Kathy, what is it about Wendy's Westlaw question you think was not answered? The 24/7 access? How everyone who has a monthly subscription to Westlaw gets free access one day month as a courtesy of West Corporation? What is your point?

As to whether I am busy, sometimes my work day is 16 hours, sometimes less. I travel to Atlanta nearly every week during the discovery phase of my case (like now), so I log a lot of time in airports waiting for my flight (like now). Nothing unusual about that. Just as a lot of road warriors do, I use my laptop and wireless to surf the Net to pass the time after I've cleared security, and blog when there's something juicy. Sure beats watching CNN Airport over and over and over ....

164. Thanks, itsy. Some people ask questions because they are genuinely interested in understanding what is going on in Brit's case and learning whether certain legal manuevers might have merit. And then there are those who are uninformed and wish to stay that way. My responses have been directed to questions posed by the former, from posters like you, britaculous, Diane T. and others. I'm happy to answer whatever you want to know about what happened, why it happened, what it means, etc. Those who don't want to be informed about why the courts or the parties do what they do, and why they do it, and those who simply cannot accept what the law says, well, the can just skip over the entry. No skin off my teeth. They're entitled to an opinion, and there's a lot of entertainment value in reading what they have to say.
