46. Hogan's kid needs to take a reality pill: he personally has the responsibility to slamming a promising young Marine into a wheelchair existance with his irresponsible driving curtesy of his mother's teaching. Both he and her should be slammed in the slammer for this. Thanks loads, Hogan's people. Thanks loads.

47. completely disgusted, I'm pushing 30. I don't need to be old to know how you feel. I have lost loved ones in drunk driving accidents, and have lost loved ones to alcohol alone. Have you? I have nephews that have seen Nick's crap on youtube and said "wow, he's cool". Like I really want him influencing them. I'm just capable of looking at situations from everyone's point of view, and I think I've said repeatedly that Nick should be punished, but I just don't feel he deserves to have the book thrown at him. People always say the system sucks, but really the system is brilliant, it's bitter prejudices that suck.

And Fern can go on and on about how it's a felony, and so his felony should stick, but felonies are often plead down. Nick shouldn't be refused the right to a plea bargain ... the same right that murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and drug dealers get. You guys just sound insane - like a lynch mob, and this is a child we're talking about ... a child that has obviously been failed by his parents and friends, society, and perhaps now the legal system. If his dad is really the one who bought the alcohol, HE should be the one going to trial.

48. Fact 1. Terry bought the beer not John
Fact 2. It is the driver's responsibility to make sure all people riding in the car are wearing their seat belt
Fact 3. The injuries John sustained would be the same with or without a seat belt. Upon hitting the tree the headrest broke and the bar from the headrest was forced into the base of his skull.

49. He's an idiot like his father! This kid has no driving experience nor respect for the vehicle and the road. He drives drunk without beng drunk. Nick the douche went to "Billy Joel's School of Driving".

50. And, I turned 18 before all of my friends. My brother-in-law (who is a District Attorney) told me I shouldn't hang out with my 17 year old friends until they made 18, because if anything happened while we were hanging out, I would be held responsible. He knew I smoked pot, and I imagine that's what he was talking about. I believe that if John knew Nick had been drinking, he'd still be in trouble - even if it was Terry that bought it. You've just got to be retarded to, at 23, get into a vehicle with a minor who's been drinking, to street race, without a seatbelt - Stupid (with a capital "S"). If John had worn his seatbelt he wouldn't be as hurt as is, and if he wasn't as hurt as he is, Nick wouldn't be in much trouble at all. It's just not right.

51. Lenore - my thoughts exactly, thank you. It doesn't matter who this kid is, there are laws. And the same way some of you want the book thrown at him, it wouldn't be thrown the same way if he was a nobody. There will be a day in court and punishment according to the law. I believe they said April? So no one should be throwing arms up in the air just yet, nothing has happened as far as "punishment", so I'm not sure what the debate is all about. All families, despite whether you like them or not, suffered, and will continue to suffer. Let's let the law take it's hand and see how it plays out...

52. 1) If John knew Nick had been drinking, it does not matter who bought it.
2) I imagine Nick has great respect for his bestfriend, who served in Iraq, and is considered a hero. I seriously doubt he'd have the balls to tell him what to do, and again ... being the adult in the situation trumps all.
3) His head snapped back and broke the headrest, yes, but if his seatbelt had been on his head wouldn't have had enough momentum to snap a headrest.

53. Oh wow, lenore. I just re-read your message and realized you don't even have your facts straight!! John's head broke the headrest, it didn't magically break off. He had no seatbelt on, so when they hit, he lunged forward, and then back - which is when the headrest was broken. Please don't respond to my posts if you don't even know what you're talking about.

54. So Nick wasn't racing the night of the accident, B.S.!
A car doesn't sustain that kind of damage without traveling at a high rate of speed. Wasn't he seen months later burning rubber on the city street of L.A. in front of The Ivy?
This kid or his parents won't be happy until he's killed someone. Stop allowing these rich kids to drive fast sports cars, give him a Prius or something, better yet, take his license away.

55. We sound insane? Lynch mob?

Please. We're not calling for the death penalty. HE WILL BE JUST FINE.

Posted at 9:59PM on Mar 12th 2008 by Fern

56. I think you, and whoever agreed with you, are the only 2 people who dispute the fact that he'd be okay if he had a seatbelt on. I think that's just generally accepted.

57. So, what you are saying Fight is that it is all John's fault and he got what he deserved. Nice. Blame the victim. The broken headrest happened on first impact when the car's back end hit the tree. Seatbelt or not it would have happened the same exact way. I highly suggest you talk to Mr. District Attorney because yes it does very much matter who supplied the beer to a minor. John did nothing criminal, Terry did. John only showed poor judgment not criminal behavior. And for that he has to spend the rest of his life in a coma. I think that is bad enough without people like you implying he got what he deserved.

58. I said you people are like a lynch mob, meaning the mob mentality. If you honestly believe I thought you wanted the death penalty, then you're even dumber than I thought. Yes, it's still you who sounds insane.

59. This kid gets 18 months in jail, and serves no more than 9 for good behavior in jail that most people wouldn't mind living in. He gets out in 8 months for good behavior. Then the wrongful death lawsuit gets filed for about $20 million. Why just 8 months? Because rich and "famous" people don't do hard jail time, only the little insignificant people do jail time. Don't forget the talk show circuit and book tour when he gets out to make even more money. That's what happens when society panders to and worships no talent wannabe "celebs"

60. Lenore, you're posting lies. The headrest broke from John's head hitting it. Would you also like to debate what color the sky is?
