New Graves in Manson Case -- Can You Dig It?

Charlie Manson and his hypnotized hippies have been locked up for decades, but there's a pretty shocking new development -- with the help of an eccentric prospector, authorities may have found hidden gravesites with other victims.

Location: Barker Ranch, in Death Valley National Park, CA, one of the secret places the Manson Family hid out during the late 60's. The prospector, Emmett Harder, who had dinner with Manson and the girls from time to time, led the search for graves. He guided lab researchers, an anthropologist and a cadaver-seeking dog to detect chemical markers of human remains.

Why the Big Deal: While awaiting trial, Family chick Susan Atkins told her cell mate there were "three people out in the desert that they done in." There were always rumors that the killing clan did in hitchhikers and runaways, none of whom were ever found.

What They Found
: During the hunt, the dog suddenly laid down, quivered with his ears upright and began whining. One of the investigators used an instrument that can chemically detect buried human remains -- it began beeping at regular intervals, and as it approached the ground the beeping became a steady stream of sound. Authorities say they need to do more testing, but they may have found two grave sites and possibly an additional one.

Implications for Charlie and the Chicks (and Tex)
: Even if there are bodies, it's gonna be hard to pin it on the Family and particularly specific members. But you never know, especially if someone rats someone else out. With parole a possibility, it's not just at theoretical proposition.

Stay tuned.

106. PLEASE...no more peoples hard earned tax dollars on trials for any of the animals involved. Only ones to gain are lawyers and publicity. Whats been done already will keep them in jail till they die a natural death. Charlie up fpr parole 6 times and 6 times denied....Leslie Van Helton has been denied everytime also. Not a thing to gain by new trials. My personal opinion...if you murder ONE person or 50...life without parole. I cannot figure out why they were not executed in the first place. Let sleeping dogs lie.

107. FYI - add to the Mansons' list of murders his own defense attorney, who disappeared during the trial. His body was never found. I remember Vincent Bugliosi quoting one of the former family members in "Helter Skelter" saying there were so many bodies buried in the desert that could never all be found.

# 90 His Lawyer Ronald Hughes, was found 4 months after the Defense rested, He was Murdered in the Desert, later some of
Charlies followers admited to killing him for Manson.

108. READ THE BOOK - the first trial was SO EXPENSIVE and long - and it's taxpayer money, people! They may never get a solid case tying Manson to those bodies. Manson will never be released. It's a lost cause to prosecute under these conditions.

109. Even if they have found new evidence, how can they pin it to Charlie and the ladies all these years later. I wouldn't worry about any of them ever seeing the light of day. None of them will ever get out of jail alive, which is good cause that's where they belong.

110. Now usually when I come to tmz i expect to read a lot of trash talk about any of the stories concerning blacks. Well here we have a prime example that most of your most hideous crimes are comitted by the white man. And this dumb a$$ had the audacity to try and frame african americans for a couple of his crimes. So when you racist bastards go ranting and raving about the black community take a look at your own misfits Manson, Dahmer, Gacy and so on. Just goes to prove that all races no matter who have some ugly skeletons in our closets, so stop pointing the finger at one particular race!!!!!!!

111. If this 'new developement' acctually surprizes you people, then you must have been under a rock since before the Tate Murders. Of course there are other bodies. Do you think they just decided that night to start killing and that it wouldn't happen while the investigation wasn't going on? What good will it do anyway? These people are in for life. They will never get parolled! How many times have they already been denied? Besides, 90% of you commenting on this story probably weren't even born yet.!

113. To Cult Member and all of you who post your support of freeing Manson, I suspect you are kids who don't know a damn thing about Charles Manson and the crimes he set in motion. He to this day still receives mail from misguided kids who want to join his family. By the time he started his "Family" he had already spent half of his life in prison. There are plenty of people who had tough childhoods who never resorted to rape, murder and other crimes so don't try to use that excuse for Manson. As for his followers who murdered for him, most of them came from good middle class homes, yet they chose to follow a 34 year old ex-con and in the end committ cold blooded murder. Don't let Manson's so called "crazy" behavior fool you. He is not crazy and very aware of what he is doing. He admits to no remorse yet also says that maybe his biggest mistake was not killing enough people. The women can cry their crocodile tears to the end of their days...but when it came to butchering people they did not even know, they laughed about it afterwards..ate food from their refrigerators, showered in their tubs, and used their blood to write messages on walls and doors. Tex Watson and Susan Atkins became reborn Christians....amazing how going to prison can turn you on to Jesus! As for the so called race card, murderers come in all colors...the so called "Zebra Killers" were a bunch of black religious sickos, Dahmer white, the killers of the victims buried on a ranch in Northern Ca. were a white man and an asian man....to "lifes a bitch", only ignorant people will say crime is solely a black problem. I am saying that isn't true. 2 of the greatest mass murderers in recorded history were white, Hitler and Stalin. To you ignorant Manson wannabe followers and sympathy laden fools, look at the crime scene pictures and read the real story. Maybe you will change your minds. Would you kill because some homeless ex-con told you too!?

114. I grew up where this happened and let me say this was a horrifying event. I hope none of them ever get parole and the good Lord will take care of the rest when judgement day comes. And further more I agree another trial will just let them see outside the jail for awhile which none of them deserve.

115. When they raided Sharon Tate's home, did you know that they laughed when she begged for her unborn child's life? I think they should all be left in prison to rot for all eternity. Just my two cents.

116. Prison hasn't been too bad for Tex Watson. He's serving time in a MINIMUM security prison, even though he delivered 80% of the violence inflicted on all the victims. He also married and fathered four children. Prison sure is hell!

117. completely disgusted, erica...My point was for Leslie, not all of them. She won't see the light of day because of her connection to Manson. Patricia Krenwinkle is who killed the baby. Leslie was not even with them that night.Patricia and 8- people- killing Susan Atkins should be in jail for life. Leslie killed one person (which I agree is too many.) She's been in jail for double the time as most murderers, and I think that her debt to society has been paid, and she has proven to be a low risk as a threat. To deny the parole you are saying that the rehabilitation process simply does not work. (Which it really doesn't. Most former inmates say that jail is crime school.)

Posted at 7:28PM on Mar 19th 2008 by 1tequila2

118. to 1tequila2, Leslie Van Houten regardless of what she was charged with has no business getting out of prison EVER. And I am sorry but the rehabilitation process overall does not work. by the way it was Tex Watson who finally admitted to killing Sharon Tate. Leslie Van Houten wanted to go along the first night..she has admitted this. she was very aware when Watson and the 3 women returned to Spann Ranch what had happened. Not one of those memebers of the Manson Family who commited murder have paid their debt to society. They laughed when the murders were reported on TV, Leslie refused to cooperate with the investigation...she made her bed and she can just do her time. You said that former inmates say that jail is crime school. For some maybe so but even before Leslie killed the LaBiancas she fully joined in with Manson and all his followers who broke into homes while the tenants were asleep, moving things around. Can you even imagine the terror of waking up the next morning? They stole and all those convicted were more than willing participants in each and every crime they commited. My brother in law is a correctional guard and he has been around Tex, Manson, and Bruce Davis. Watson, Davis and Atkins are supposed to be reborn christians...and looking for a way out of prison. 1tequila2, I look at it this way, the supreme court of Calif. spared their worthless lives. They should be grateful for that. Tex, susan, Pat Krenwinkel, Bruce Davis, Leslie Van Houten and Charles Manson were all begged by their victims to spare their lives. They all showed not one bit of mercy...now you feel that we should show Leslie some mercy? Hell no. I lived 15 miles from Spann Ranch and the fear that radiated from that hell hole was unbelievable. Not long after the murders my 2 younger brothers were parked on a hill over looking the ranch and Watson and Manson ran up the hill with guns..by the grace of God my brothers got away. No mercy for any of them. They could not let any of the Tate/LaBiancas have any mercy...Calif. was good enough to show them mercy of not sending them to the gas chamber. Isn't that enough for you? Tell you what...look at all of the murder pictures...including the LaBiancas. Then say Leslie is still no danger to society and let her live in your home!

Posted at 9:03PM on Mar 19th 2008 by completely disgusted

119. And one more thought 1tequila2, you made the statement that we all have done things when we were younger that we wish we could take back. True but how many of us commited cold blooded murder? And laughed about it? Or made comments like "the people at the tate house ran around like chickens with their heads cut off"? Watson is now 62, Krenwinkel is 60 and Atkins and Van Houten 59 and 58. Age has nothing to do with it. They mercilessly butchered innocent people in their own homes, showed not one moment of mercy. They more or less beat they system when their death sentences were changed from death to life with parole. I feel exactly as the families of the victims do...let them die in prison. All of them!
