Mel Befriends Britney

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson and his family have very privately befriended Britney Spears to help her through her troubles.

The two were at Romanov Restaurant and Lounge in L.A. last night and according to one report they broke bread together. Our sources say Gibson, his wife Robin and their kids reached out to Britney during her darkest days and began seeing her.

We're told Mel and Robin feel like they know how tough it is to live in a fishbowl and they think they can help the Britster. There have been private dinners in which Mel, Robin and their brood have hooked up with Brit to give her support.

At Romanov's last night, Mel and Brit did not walk in or out together. Looks like Mr. Mel, unlike lots of other celebs, isn't into splashing his good deeds in the media. Nice.

31. Mel Gibson thinks he can cure his alcoholism and anti-semitism in the comfort of his own home, using his own ego rather than a Higher Power. This will not help Britney, and only confuse her into wondering why she can't pull it off. And, of course, together, they can both blame the "Jewish media."

what does being jewish have to do with this story about one family reaching out to another??????????? Mel's Passion of the Christ is not biased.........I think most would agree that history dictates that christ was killed by the jews........Not unlike the millions of Jews killed by Hitler, or American Indians slaughtered by the white man, etc..........unfortunately it is reality! Having said that, I am catholic, which is also ridiculed in our very small world. However I too know that the Jews were and are the chosen people of "my god"........I wish them well each and everyday........

34. To JWoolman : I was raised the same way, 16 years of Catholic Schooling. You are !00% correct. The parents of some of these folks must have imparted some cultural anti-Semitism. The priest you refer to was from a church near my old house, Shrine Of the Little Flower. His name was Father Coughlin, and the Pope at the time silenced him. (He was not allowed to speak of Jews. ) It was a time of pain and hurt feelings for the Jews of the Detroit and surrounding communities. It even reached Jews Nationally and internationally. He made some hateful and cruel comments. Eventually, the Vatican made a pronouncement that the Jews were not the ones who killed Jesus, but the ruling Empire of the time- Rome. This does not mean the Italians killed Jesus, but the Roman Emperor, who was a pagan, not a Christian. He was threatened politically by a new "Ruler" , Jesus.
By the way, we got a good education, plenty of discipline. We have nice handwriting. However, I hated it at the time.

36. Who is stupider, Mel or Britney? Mel may be a moron but he *does* own Malibu. Britney is possibly borderline retarded, but she seems OK with the Jews. They do have one thing in common, their creative days are behind them, each reached their zenith years ago. Apocalypto was was met with as much silence as Brit's last album. Two of Hollywood's funniest jokes out for a dinner together, how quaint...

43. If BRITNEY or any person of Celebrity status wants privacy,...money can easily create the avenue. This is a huge planet, I mean look a Johnny Depp, you don't see his life being splashed in the streets like pigs being fed directly in front of a running of the bulls ...now do ya? It's a norm for has-been actors and actresses wanting their pictures taken or any attention, so why Britney still lives her life among the stinch of all the street rat paparazzi's I have no clue.....Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, and others were bums, waiters, living 3-4 to an apartment before they made it to stardom, so why ask them for advice? There names are not Dr. Tom or Dr. Mel....HOLLYWOOD PEOPLE live in their own private world, cuz..........out across America on all the other Highways and Byways, the people don't care and laugh at them, like they always have.....there's only a handful of people compared to the rest of the world that even give a crap,....read more about it in the Book, A Yin, without a Yang, is a Yong" by Hunter Wolf

44. Hi Paulster,
I'm asking the following question because I've always wondered why -- I'm not trying to be a smart ass,

Being a catholic, (non-practicing for years) our views on Christ are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

All my life I have had love/hate emotions concerning Jewish people. I personally only knew one Jewish person, and we would crack up debating back and forth about whether Jesus has been born or if we’re still waiting for him.

The love part is I have the utmost respect and admiration for Jewish people and the atrocities you have had to endure since, well, forever. Jewish people have contributed so much, especially in the field of medicine, that I wouldn’t know where to begin listing them, the one that pops into my head immediately is the polio vaccine.

Now for the hate part. I’m jealous/envious that everything they do turns to gold, the Midas Touch, but mainly it’s the absolute necessity that they marry within the faith and if they don’t, the non-Jewish person has to convert -- why? It's almost like being a gentile is a lower class of people. I know the answer to this question too involved for this tiny little box. If you’re offended by this, I’m sorry, but it’s something I could never completely understand. It’s like a religious clique that nobody else can enter. I hope I haven't pissed you off..

45. 31 - the one Mass-less day is Good FRIDAY, not Good Saturday. There is Mass on Holy Saturday and there's also the Easter Vigil Mass on that day.
