Mel Befriends Britney

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson and his family have very privately befriended Britney Spears to help her through her troubles.

The two were at Romanov Restaurant and Lounge in L.A. last night and according to one report they broke bread together. Our sources say Gibson, his wife Robin and their kids reached out to Britney during her darkest days and began seeing her.

We're told Mel and Robin feel like they know how tough it is to live in a fishbowl and they think they can help the Britster. There have been private dinners in which Mel, Robin and their brood have hooked up with Brit to give her support.

At Romanov's last night, Mel and Brit did not walk in or out together. Looks like Mr. Mel, unlike lots of other celebs, isn't into splashing his good deeds in the media. Nice.

62. We're all here on earth to confront our "shadow" side, i.e. that which we project on others and, also, learn to love ourselves and one another. I think Mel Gibson has more than adequately atoned for his religious fanaticism and has been involved in addiction counseling as well as psychotherapy. Additionally, he was ostracized by many Jews in Hollywood....what else do you reverse haters want? His wife seems to be a very loving and nurturing woman (mother).

Hopefully, Britney's father has her on the right track now and she will accept the real stars, who extended her friendship during those tumultuous months, up on their friendship and guidance. I think Britney is going to come out on the other side a very different person so get beyond memories of the teenage start, Britney, who lost her way the past almost four years.

63. I have a friend who works as a film editor in the "business". She was on location for 8 months in Mexico for filming of his latest film Apocalypto...whatever. She said not only does Mel have a girlfriend, it is a well-known fact and everyone knows. Including his wife. This little girl-toy, who may I mention is in her 20's...same age as his oldest child. So, that CHRISTIAN who is judgmental of everyone is not such a great guy after all! Shame on you MEL!

64. I think it's really nice that Brit has become friends with the Gibson family, and that they reached out to her when she was in trouble. I think only someone else in the public eye--or the public glare--can know how really hard it is to try and get well and find peace when the whole world is watching..and perhaps even condemning.

66. i find this ridiculous.
so he is finally exposed as the prejudice one
and only because U-tube exposed the video and
he got backed into a corner did he denounce his
Pastor. Then he lies again and say he didnt know
the pastor preached such things and if he knew he
would have left the church. But hours later on
CNN, he says he has no intentions of leaving the church.
well it seems to me that even if he didnt know beore
he sure as hell knows now, and he's STAYING.

67. Every celebrity I've seen on TV or read about in the News, is definitely on Britney's side and feel sorry that she is going through this horrible mess. They blame her struggles on the Paparazzi and the deadbeat, money mooching K-Fed, Kaplan and all the other lowlife "managers" and "lawyers". On TV interviews they say that no one in Hollywood has ever had so much scrutiny as Britney. Good for Mel Gibson and his family. They are truly caring people.
As far as some of you nutcases, it's time to stop bashing and trashing Britney. Britney is going to get well. You will have to find someone else to hate.

72. MEL isn't any beacon of light......
he's unfortunately got a drinking problem {not being judgemental, just practical....Brit doesn't need a drinking buddy.....}, and he's been unfaithful to his wife. I don't think much of him, mainly because of the way he's treated his wife.

By the way, I hope Britney recovers from her "marriage" to k-fed----makes me sick how most people seem to have forgot that during her pregnancies he gave her no support....he was out partying all the time and thumbing his nose at her. He treated her like crap. Which is why she DUMPED him after the second baby was born, she didn't waste much time. But it bothered her, since she really had wanted a marriage and had these 2 babies to raise. Makes me SICK that "k-fed" has never taken responsibility for his HUGE part in her break-down. Having 2 very small kids back-to-back and a jerk husband at the same time is enough to make anyone crack.
