Suicide at Mel's Place

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a construction worker committed suicide at one of Mel Gibson's homes today.

It happened at Mel's Agoura Hills home -- near Malibu. The construction worker was 48-years-old. We're told he hanged himself. The body was found by the job site foreman.

The Sheriff's substation in Lost Hills took the call at 8:07 AM -- that's the same station where Mel was taken after his DUI arrest in 2006.

Mel was not at the house when the body was discovered. A law enforcement source says no one from Gibson's family was living at the house -- it is currently under heavy construction.

The house is less than a mile from his church -- The Holy Family Catholic Church -- where Mel's daughter was married back in September, 2006.

Mel has never lived on the compound.

UPDATE: Law enforcement sources say the body was found hanging in the addition to the home that was being built and was in "full-body rigor mortis" and the hanging could have occurred last night.

229. Please..leave the guy/Mel G alone..he has had enough problems...sensationalizing his alcohol problem...
everybody has arrests and alcohol...they only wanted to trash Mel..because of their jealousy with his professional
accomplishments....Leave the poor construction guy alone...he was accomplishing alot!!..he worked in the film
industry...and that is hard to break into....seriously...I have a degree/A.A. and a Bachelor Of Science in Radio, TV,
and Film...back in 1979 from SDSU..and a Script Supervising Certtication from U.C.L.A...Ext..and Jim Kelly Durgin...
I had a hell of a time, getting noticed....back then, there was NO cable..or extras..or reality shows for twenties..
the guy that took his life, needs some dignity...YOU don't know why until you are in his situation..plus I was in a
BAD divorce where I paid dearly for a 12 year marriage....so I stand on my soap box and preach....!! leave the
sick alone..and MEL alone..he is awesome...and the cop that arrested him should be ashamed....not proud of
arresting someone who is so loved by all America!!
Grow up and WAKE UP...you gossiping Americans....!! sounds like the small minded town I reside in....San Pedro..
nothing to do but trash people with negativity....!!
I love you Mel and I pray for the Construction Workers soul....he was troubled....and his wife for her loss!!

When something like this happens to someone you know, it makes you think about the important things in life, like family, friends, and co-workers, and just how fortunate we all really are. 235. LET ME SHARE SOMETHING WITH ALL OF YOU WHO ARE CALLING MIKE SELFISH.

When we were remodeling our kitchen he stopped over to visit us and ended up removing our kitchen cabinets and relocating them into our garage.
When my dad and I were building a deck he came by with his tools and spent two days making sure the deck was done correctly.
When I was building a block retaining wall on my hill he stopped by with his laser level and spent a day making sure that the wall was done correctly.
When my son was starting in a soccer league, he came to his soccer practices and games to give him advice. MIke was the one of the least selfish individuals I knew. He was always there to help.
He was always going out of his way for his daughters. He loved them more than anything and talked about them all the time. He was so proud of them.
Most of time we were together our conversations would end up being about his daughters. He gave them all he could.

HE WAS NOT A SELFISH PERSON!!!

IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW MIKE, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SAYING THINGS ABOUT HIM. FOR ALL OF YOU THAT DID KNOW MIKE, YOU KNOW WHO HE WAS AND HOW UNSELFISH HE WAS. HE WAS A MAN A GREAT CHARACTER AND EVEN MEN OF GREAT CHARACTER CAN BE TAKEN DOWN BY THE POWER OF DEPRESSION.

236. My blessing to the Van Dyke Family. I used to date Mike Van Dyke and he was an incredible man. Loving and caring. He would do anything for anyone. This is very hard for me to take in and believe it is true. I was just with him a month ago or so and wish that maybe I paid more attention to him and listened to his cry out. Just remember to cherish your family and friends and also listen and be aware to what they may be saying to you. Mike was the most loving and funny man I ever new. God bless the Van Dyke Family and Mike, we love you and will miss you. I'll keep Jalama and giggle juice around for you for a long time.
