Suicide at Mel's Place

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a construction worker committed suicide at one of Mel Gibson's homes today.

It happened at Mel's Agoura Hills home -- near Malibu. The construction worker was 48-years-old. We're told he hanged himself. The body was found by the job site foreman.

The Sheriff's substation in Lost Hills took the call at 8:07 AM -- that's the same station where Mel was taken after his DUI arrest in 2006.

Mel was not at the house when the body was discovered. A law enforcement source says no one from Gibson's family was living at the house -- it is currently under heavy construction.

The house is less than a mile from his church -- The Holy Family Catholic Church -- where Mel's daughter was married back in September, 2006.

Mel has never lived on the compound.

UPDATE
: Law enforcement sources say the body was found hanging in the addition to the home that was being built and was in "full-body rigor mortis" and the hanging could have occurred last night.

61. Now, I wonder who Mel Gibson and his father are going to blame this poor man's suicide on, let's see, could it be those pesky Jews, or those nasty Israelis, or those evil evil Muslim people, wait wait don't rule out the gay and lesbian community, and ofcourse it could have been a master plan by the Vatican, or it could have been the 3.2 billion of the rest of us that Mel does not think are going to heaven either. I think that it is more likely that that poor man probably realized that he need to turn to God and at the Gibson compound, near the Gibson church, close to the Gibson bomb shelter - that is about as far from God as you can get.

62. 9. Why didn't the guy just commit suicide at his own home? One of his co-workers probably found him and it probably traumatized the hell out of him. People that commit suicide are selfish, not thinking of anyone else obviously. Next time...get a room.

Were I his family I'd prefer he hanged (yes, it's hanged) himself at an empty house under construction than at home, where the wife and kids would be traumatized to find him. I worked with a cop who drove to work and killed himself in the precinct garage. He knew that the cops who would find him were better equipped to handle it than his children. If anything, this guy was NOT selfish in that he went somewhere only construction workers would find him. Now, according to Mel's unforgiving religion, his poor, tortured soul will burn in hell for all eternity, so he probably wasn't worried much about traumatizing Mel in absentia.

66. Sorry - No disrespect was intended to the deceased or his family and I regret deeply making light of Mr. Gibson at the expense of that gentleman and his family. God Bless.

67. How about a little human compassion for someone who was suffering terribly? All you who talk about how selfish it is, how selfless are you that you can't even say, "Poor guy. How sad he suffered so much." Sheesh.

73. Look...I know this is all funny funny ha-ha, but show a little respect guys.

This person is somebody that was very dear to both me and my family, and left behind two gorgeous daughters. This isn't funny; yeah, it sucks that it happened, and yeah, I'm sure there are a number of things that could have been done to help, but at least have a little respect.

Please. Imagine if it was somebody you loved. It wouldn't be so funny any more would it.
