"Bachelor" On Hunt For Human Remains

Former "Bachelor" bachelor Andy Baldwin just got back from the island of Palau in the South Pacific -- not on vacation, on a mission with the Navy. Now let's talk about why we the taxpayers are footing the bill on such BS.

Baldwin was among 20 military types who were on a search mission in the middle of the ocean. What, you ask, were they looking for? A B-24J bomber that went down during the war. Not Iraq. Not Vietnam. No, not Korea. We're talking WWII, as in more than 60 years ago.

Turns out, the military spends $52 million each year to find the remains of missing soldiers -- it's part of the POW/MIA program. That's all well and good depending on the circumstances. But a crash that is ancient history, at a time when the economy sucks and the Federal government is sucking the life out of everyone with taxes??

Baldwin, a Navy medic and diver, and crew found what could be human remains. We're told it's all being tested in the lab and it could take months, even years, to determine identities. At least he got a really good tan.

46. Very poor taste TMZ. What is the value of any service member who has given their life in service to this country. I think sometimes we forget that it was the older conflicts that helped shape and make this country what it is today. I think it should give great comfort to families of servicemen today to know that this country will continue to try and recover remains of our soldiers, no matter how long it takes. It's a matter of respect. There is no greater price you can pay than with your life, and your remarks not only disrepect the sacrifice they made, but disrespect every serviceman that has given his life to his country. I would much rather my tax dollars goto this than some of the things they do goto.

47. OK, Really? After 60 plus years, how much of the human body would be left?

49. I happen to know Andy Baldwin, I wouldn't say we're BFFs but we're acquainted. I also know one of his ex-girlfriends—he's definitely NOT gay, but even if he were, he'd still be someone to be admired. He is a good person who puts up with a lot of snide and sexist remarks in good humour because he knows his face recognition helps to advance the charitible works he's involved in. I'm not sure about military protocol, but he did get approval to be on The Bahchelor. Not his fault that he was allowed to do the show or that he was placed on this mission. TMZ, you savor the instances that you've forced people to make public apologies. YOU NEED TO APOLOGIZE NOW. Slamming the works of the miliary to good by their fallen heroes is disgraceful.

GOD BLESS THE MILITARY AND ALL WHO FOUGHT AND DIED FOR MINE AND YOUR FREEDOM.

51. FOR BARRY: I'm not defending this guy's personality, but he is not a medic. He is a Search & Rescue/Recovery Pilot. I am sorry for your pain.

TMZ: As a proud disabled Vietnam Veteran, who lost two uncles in WW II (within 24 hours of each other), a fact my now deceased mother never got over, I hope to God you never know what it's like to have someone Missing in Action or killed and buried on foreign soil.

These are honorable missions, and necessary ones, no matter how long they take or at what cost to the government. Someone mentioned the consumer costs on soda; think about what this country spends on make-up, porn, disposable items altogether...this amount of money is nothing. You owe all of us an sincere apology for stirring up this pain with your ignorance and stupidity.

52. To all those military family members and supporters who wrote in condeming this piece, thank you, my post was conventiently deleted - but the voice of the people is the voice of God - even at TMZ.com.

53. Do me a favor and have the person who wrote this f'in story to call me. I would like ot hear their explanation for thinking finding the remains of a fallen soldier is a waste of money. You are obviously a spoiled American brat, who does not appreciate the sacrifices the people of our military have made. And before you say something, keep in mind I am a combat veteran who lost many friends.

Oh by the way, wouldn't you want the government to spend money to find your body, if it made your relatives feel better and give htem closure? If not then you are obviously a jerk off who doesn't care about your family and friends. Of course, you work for TMZ so that makes you a douchebag anyway.

54. Thank God they have these recovery missions. If anything were to happen to my husband in war I would want his remains returned home, no matter how long it took. Those men and woman lost their lives fighting for this country, protecting our freedoms, and deserve the utmost respect, let alone a proper burial. There are people out there who have no idea what has happened to their loved ones and for the one's whose remains have been recovered and identified, they finally get peace of mind. A chance to truely grieve. Something like this is not a waste of money. Our fallen heros deserve no less!

55. As are all Command events, the Premise of this one is to return all remains to the families, and their relatives. It has been 40 years, and we have yet to account for all Viet-Nam POW/MIA remains and whereabouts of MIA'S. It will never be done.

56. Ok, yes, BIG waste of tax dollars when we are footing (to date) a $600,000,000,000 war and can't afford to fill our gas tanks. But I don't blame Baldwin at all for doing his job... he's military and when he's ordered to do something, he does it. PERIOD no matter how frivilous it is at the moment.

57. OK, sorry to upset the military peeps here, but why not just let the dead rest in peace? It's been sixty years and you want a fragment of a bone that MIGHT be your grandfather? Stupid...he's dead and gone, respect his final resting place. Hell, people pay good money to be buried at sea!

All you military peeps, before you crucify me, I totally love and respect the military, but to spend all this money on MAYBE finding sixty year old bones.....geez!

58. What if it was your dad they were looking for.
NO SOLDIER LEFT BEHIND
ANYONE WHO WOULD GIVE THEIR OWN LIFE FOR THEIR COUNTRY DESERVES TO BE LAID TO REST PROPERLY. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS PROBABLY MEANS TO THE FAMILIES. CMON, HAVE A HEART.

59. I'm sure that if some reality-tv celebrity were buried out in the middle of the ocean TMZ would spend tons of money just take some video of the corpse. You idiots at TMZ who make you're living out of doing absolutely nothing worthwhile need to keep your opinions about the US Military to yourselves.

60. I am, like so many others here, completely disgusted by your calleous portrayal of humanity in this thread. There are few words that can discribe how low you have put yourself. Obviously people regard the respect for human life much more deeply that you do. As others have said, go take pics of the celebrats drinking their coffee or exposign themselves, and leave the real issues to the public. Until you are in a position, where you have a true understanding of American patriotism, shut the hell up!!! I usually enjoy reading these little blurbs about the goings on of the "stars"...gives me a giggle for the day. you've gone too far in this though....simply an uneducated idiot, thinking he is smarter that he really is.
