"Bachelor" On Hunt For Human Remains

Former "Bachelor" bachelor Andy Baldwin just got back from the island of Palau in the South Pacific -- not on vacation, on a mission with the Navy. Now let's talk about why we the taxpayers are footing the bill on such BS.

Baldwin was among 20 military types who were on a search mission in the middle of the ocean. What, you ask, were they looking for? A B-24J bomber that went down during the war. Not Iraq. Not Vietnam. No, not Korea. We're talking WWII, as in more than 60 years ago.

Turns out, the military spends $52 million each year to find the remains of missing soldiers -- it's part of the POW/MIA program. That's all well and good depending on the circumstances. But a crash that is ancient history, at a time when the economy sucks and the Federal government is sucking the life out of everyone with taxes??

Baldwin, a Navy medic and diver, and crew found what could be human remains. We're told it's all being tested in the lab and it could take months, even years, to determine identities. At least he got a really good tan.

888. TMZ, You have sunk to a new low. How dare you suggest that we should abandon our soldiers dead or alive. Our national honor demands that we not leave any soldier in the field if we can possible bring them home. If you have any imagination at all, try to imagine what it is like to know that one of your loved ones is somewhere out in the world waiting to be found and brought home. It doesn't matter how long it's been. It's not even like it costs a lot compared to some of the other things the government spends money on.

889. The only "rediculous waste" is any time spent reading what the TMZ staff thinks about military spending. Shut up and stick to wasting your pathetic lives following waste of space celebrities as they shop at the grocery store.

890. What can I add to these comments except that it's great to see so many think that TAZ has no clue of what it means to serve your country. Pleas in the future stick to covering the "beautiful people" and let those patriotic Americans worry about where and how our military dollars are spent.I can't help but wonder if it was one of your family members that was MIA if you would feel the same. Thanks to all you who support our military and their families.

891. "T", I'm glad to hear that you have your 'own God to worship'. Who would that be...Britney? As for you having a 'pessimistic view of the US and the world as a whole', who gives a $hit? It's obvious that you have a pessimistic view of yourself, and rightfully so. It's too bad a cowardly sissy like you hasn't served in a combat situation. You would never have had to worry about the enemy...friendly fire would have done you in.

892. YOU PEOPLE AND THE 45,399.48 OTHER BONEHEADS WHO FEEL THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SERVING YOUR NATION IS ABOUT. WHO CARES IF THIS WRECK HAPPENED OVER 60 YEARS! THESE ARE SERVICEMEN WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. THEIR FAMILIES HAVE NEVER KNOWN WHERE THEY WERE, THEY WERE NEVER ABLE TO PUT FLOWERS ON THEIR GRAVES. NOW MAYBE THEY WILL BE ABLE TO DO THIS ONCE THE REMAINS ARE IDENTIFIED AND RETURNED FOR BURIAL. THE SAD PART OF THIS PARTICULAR MISSION IS THAT IT HAS TAKEN US OVER 60 YEARS TO FIND THESE MEN. WE OWE IT TO THEM AND ALL THE OTHER MIA SERVICEMEN TO BRING THEM HOME NO MATTER WHAT THE COST.
MAYBE YOU IDIOTS AT TMZ SHOULD GO BACK TO REPORTING WHO HAD THEIR NAILS DONE, WHO'S BOINKING WHO THIS WEEK AND WHAT MORONIC THING PARIS HILTON DID TODAY. LEAVE THE REAL NEWS STORIES TO PEOPLE WHO CAN ACTUALLY REPORT THE REAL NEWS WITHOUT PUTTING SOME LEFTIST ANTI-GOVERNMENT SPIN ON IT.

893. It is never a waste to find the bodies of our fallen soilders and bring them home. I have a friend and they will probably never find the body of her brother. He was lost in Vietnam. But that does not mean that these men are not thought about and prayed for. The comfort it would bring to their families would never be able to be replaced. Our boys deserve that they gave their lives for our country. This is the least we could do is to bring them home. This I know for sure it is one more way we can show support for our troops. You see I was born the daughter of a soilder and now the mom of a soilder. Let us never for the ultimate sacrafice these brave men paid.

894. How much is a human life worth? Does it's value diminish over time? What is the value of the family members? I can't believe a trivial entertainment show has attempted to broach this subject. Any person-male or female-who sacrificed all for their country deserves to be remembered and their families deserve closure. Hopefully those active duty soldiers and sailors involved in this recovery effort have more respect for this mission than your show. After all, it just may turn out to be themselves that some other searchers are looking for 60 years from now. If my father, brother, uncle or other family member disappeared during any war, I would want to know what happened to them. You need to look at other government funding and taxpayers waste of money -of which there are billions- rather than focus on a legitimate and worthwhile program to give our military and their families the support they have earned.

895. My God!
I really hope that you people NEVER have to wait years or how ever long it takes to wait on word of a loved one lost in battle.

I dont know you live with yourself.

896. Interesting way to put it, John. When you get down to it, I guess every form of government spending is someone's "pet project". If that's the case, quit spending MY tax money on AIDS research and giving government handouts to illegals, to name just a few. And, overhaul the education system while we're at it.
The government's responsibility does NOT stop with the insurance payment. The very same government who ordered these people into harm's way has an obigation, no make that a DUTY, to ensure that that individual is accounted for.

897. Hey kiddies. Thank God there are still dedicated government and military folks out there seeking to bring home the remains of our fallen heroes from conflicts past. In case you've forgotten (or never learned in high school), thousands of young people have sacrificed their lives, their limbs and their families to answer their nation's call. You, on the other hand, sit comfortably at your computer, whining about the price of a cup of coffee, or agonizing over who the next American idol might be. Get a life, people! If your mom or dad were killed in a plane crash, would you want potential recovery teams to tell you "hey, duuude, it's just a colossal waste of time and money! After all, they're dead, aren't they?" Forget about the Navy bachelor. He was just along for the ride and the phony, staged filming. There are real people out there doing this work, and seven Americans have died in the process, along with 10 others from our host nations. All for you, keeping the promise that this nation has made to those it sends into harm's way.

898. The 13 year old TMZ staffer complains that they are spending our tax dollars on this search - I wish EVERY penny of my taxable income would go for something worthwhile like this instead of a sleazy politician using it for a motel room. Although I was angry at the insulting tone of the writer, I felt very proud of Mr. Baldwin and the other "military types" who were out there trying to find our brothers. I suggest the writer spend some time volunteering at Walter Reed Hospital if he/she doesn't think this is a project more worthwhile than these shallow celebrities who can't find 5 minutes to support the Veterans associations, or even the USO.

900. A sincere thank you to all of you who have made positive comments in regard to the search for and recovery of the MIA's. There are 88,000 MIA's from American conflicts, 78,000 of those are from WWII. The men and women, both military and civilian, of JPAC, the DPMO, and all the agencies as well as volunteers who are involved in the discovery, recovery, and identification of MIA's are the most committed and dedicated people I have ever met. You see, my father-in-law is one of the crewmembers who were entombed for nearly 64 years in that B-24 in Palau until JPAC recently recovered the remains of all 8 of those heroes. My husband grew up never knowing his father or what had really happened to him. My mother-in-law never fully recovered from her traumatic loss. Now we can finally bring him home. These men and so many others fought and even gave their lives so that others could have the freedoms we enjoy today. Yes, they were and are heroes and never "ancient history".
